Re: Seagate Momentus Firmware update problem (to fix clicking noise)

I am not near the laptop so can't give you the exact number of the seagate drive in it but I think it is the same as yours. Definitly a st9xxxx. Dell tech is supposed to call me back and let me know if it is possible to replace the drive with one that has the same dell image as a new computer drive with windows 7 after it comes out Oct.22. It is bad enough I have spent hours and hours on 3 different computers they sent that they should do something on this problem.
First computer had wrong hd 5200 rpm instead of 7200. Second computer was supposed to be new and was a refurb which they deny to this day except 2 techs told me it was a refurb. It had 2 other personal files in it besides mine. Also had macros in it. Third computer would not connect to the internet except at a snails pace unless It was hooked to the adapter. A tech also told me that one was a refurb when I pressured them about it and customer service said it was new. I don't know how many times I was told something questionable which is against the law about new vs refurb. I can only go by what the techs told me when I asked if new or refurb. If something is refurb the company has to disclose that. There was nothing on the box or computer when I got it or the packing slip other then saying exchange. I know from past experience exchange usually means refurb. which is why I made a point with customer service on insisting they replace a new computer with a new computer since I never even opened the box the first computer came in. I read the packing slip first and found the error on it. It went back immediately.
The one I have is fast, fine and I am enjoying it except when it makes the clicking sound which is intermittent. I don't want a refurb hd so will have to see what the tech says after Oct. 22.
It appears that the days of Dell keeping a buyer happy and standing up to their claim quality products is no more.
