I am waiting a month for mine and it is almost into the third week of wait. I am lloking for feed back? I ran out of money lol so I got the 3.06 processor , 6 gig of RAM 1600hz and the dual radeon 5870 graphics cards.
Order my on 10-10, they gave a estimated delivery date of 11-19. I order the overclock 975, 12 gig of RAM, with the dual 5870 cards. also I got the 2TB hard drive in RAID 10.
Hope they don't delay the order.
I got the normal aurora and customized it to a level higher than the alx, for cheaper....
More ram, not 1600 though.
Main focus is those hotty cards.
Est delivery 11/5, i expect to get it around december.
I don't have one yet, but got my order in today 10/20. I got the standard as offered but with audio card and dual drives. I'm looking forward to getting it hopefully around 11/20. Best of luck to you all. I'll be watching to see how you like or feel about your new system. 2xvet.
Now your talking, I am looking for the difference between the regular aurora to the premium ALX. I am wondering is Dell charging you and extra $200.00 dollars for clocking the i7 975 to 3.6 Mhz. when I believe on the alienware line you are able to overclock yourself? And are you getting a 875 Watt PS for the extra $80.00 dollars? If anyone out there in the community has the answers that I am looking for I would appreciate it if you could clear things up for me. Thanx!!
As far as i can tell, the price difference is because of the ram, the alx has better ram.
But honestly, you won't really notice with how beefy that system is already, and dell has always overcharged for ram.
As for overclocking, if they sell you this computer, and they overclock it, that means you can overclock it, because the basic config is the same.
And yes, definetly get the 875 watt ps, the area 51 is coming base with 1.1k and it's not that different, you WILL want the bigger ps.
Sorry I did not answer your questionin my last post. To answer your question I was told by Dell that because I got the dual 5870 cars I had to have the 875 Watt powersupply and that was part of the reason I went to a ALX. But now I notice the base model Aurora has a option to upgrade tp the 875 Watt power supply if you ade getting dual graphics cards.
Yes I agree reading online you can overclock the I7 CPU family but the 3.6 ghz 975 processor is made to overclock and also has better stats than the 3.06 950 processor howevert I just could not afford the extra money so I opted for the better ram and the better graphics card
If you buy the 3.6 cpu option Dell does over clock for you to the highest overclock possible while still staying stable. It is part of the cutom build if you order that option. You would not have to overclock yourself.
But you are paying extra for something you could do yourself.
And it's really debatable what you would get out of it. Games are more reliant on the videocards now than the processor, and that brings up an entire different issue of overclocking the cards.
Which you won't need to do since you are getting the best cards on the market, and i've never felt safe doing it anyway(myself).
Alexr16 that is what I was meaning to say, use to be alienware was a clock-able systems. If you buy the overclocked i7 975 @ 3.6 you might be paying for something that you can do yourself. I think the i7 975 @ 3.3 can be safely clocked @ 3.8 before it starts to get unstable, maybe even more but why give Dell $200.00 dollars more for something you can do if you know how and are comfortable doing it. My other question was and thanks to all that responded, I found that maybe Dell is charging you for the Aurora if you pick the $80.00 more chassis is that it hopefully comes with the 875 watt PS. The only difference that I can see that you are paying extra for is the Gills and lights and memory and probably more. Did any one notice that you can purchase a single great video card with the Aurora like the radeon 5870 or the nivida 295 but Dell will not give you a good single video card choice with the Aurora ALX. Lets say that I might want to go with a single great video card to keep the purchase down as much as possible and purchase another matching card to go crossfire or sli. Either way still on the fence on which way to go. I do like the Area 51 where you can get the SSD. That's cool!!! Thanks everyone, keep me informed on any of your thoughts.

Here is my ultimate question and one to ponder and which I have not found an answer yet. I bought an Aurora ALX which I have not received yet.
But I did not investigate enough before buying my Alienware PC which is my fault and I should have done more research. I can not find out the
answers anywhere and I am looking for your help and opinions. I was told I had to get the Auroa ALX because it had the 875 Power supply to
handle dual 5870 graphics I wanted in the PC build. Shortly after Dell changed there base model to now have a 875 watt power supply as a option.
My question is this you pay an extra $1000 for the Aurora ALX what does this give you as far as performance? Someone please correct me if I am
wrong. If I could have bought the Aurora base model with the 875 watt option I could have got the over clocked 3.6 Ghz processor and got the
875 Watt case with the dual 5870 for the same price. Now I have purchased a ALX which has a set of little lights that runs up the front of the case
and top flap vents which does not do anything to enhance performance.
I have asked my Dell sales rep what am I really getting for the ALX for $1000 I was told the 6 GB 1600 MHz RAM and the 875 watt power supply.
It seems that my Dell Rep did not even notice you can now get the Aurora base model with the 875 power supply as a option. Therefore the only thing
a Aurora ALX system has from what I see that is it has the 6 GB RAM @ 1600 MHz option but RAM is cheap now when you consider the whole
system. Someone correct me if I am wrong.
Don't get me totally wrong however I am still looking forward to the 3.06 CPU, 1 T hard drive, 6g 1600hz ram and dual 5870 graphics I have no choice now
and can not go back but I just wanted to make people think before they buy after all if you are spending this type of money you should be getting the
best performance for your money. I have done a lot of reading online while waiting for my Dell Alienware PC System to arrive. The 3.06 GHz quad
processor I picked is still over kill for playing most games and the 5870 graphics cards which do direct x 11 which there are do not even games out for
yet is overkill also but I wanted my system I choose to be able to play any new release games when they came available. It is still decent PC when
all is said and done but I think with the options that are available now from Dell I could have got a better PC build.
Note I did receive the Dell S2409W 24 inch wide screen monitor that I ordered. If you do not have a 24 inch wide screen monitor you have to get
one as they are awesome for playing games as its like you are in the game.
After I bought the S2409W the Dell ST2410 monitor came out as new which seams like a good option as well.
My order is to be shipped out Nov 1st and I hope it does not get delayed. I will keep everyone posted when I receive the PC to provide a review.
Sorry for the lengthy post.
I was hoping to find some one that has already received their Aurora to find out what they thought of their build.
Dell made me revise this post. All I am trying to do is get help to answer my questions from post members.
Doug1 Man you have a great built machine. You will not regret it I am sure, but I do agree with all you have said. I have not ordered yet and will probably pay for the wait time for not purchasing sooner. I hope you are pleased with your build, it's not that you did not know which way to go it's more of did I make the right decision. I really think ya did. Good luck on killing the opponent, you got the right stuff.
Thank you Char435T I appeciate your comments. I would have liked the more powerful CPU but I ran out of moola. From reading the performances of all the different I7 CPU's I think I will be ok in the future to game on! The I7 3.06 quad processor still has turbo boost and hyper threading just like the higher end 3.33 and 3.6 CPU's.
Do all the Alienware rigs have liquid cooling or is it just a feature of the ALX models?
Also, for the Area 51 system, what are you paying the extra 700 dollars for besides a larger motherboard, power supply, and case? Does the regular Area 51 have this new active venting system?
I am debating between the Aurora and the Area 51 and am concerned with the aurora because of limited ePCI ports.
