Updating/renewing IP address on Desktop

When my modem died, it apparently zeroed out my IP.  How do I renew/refresh my computer IP address?

Glenn Dah,

 

Start, all programs, accessories, right click on command prompt, left click run as administrator. Type

 

ipconfig /release

 

Hit enter.

 

Restart your computer.

I had my computer scoped over by New Age and they were able to reinitiate my IP, but I still had problems with Network connection on computer.  They recommended reinstalling the operating system (XP).  It worked.  Now I'm happy again.
