High speed internet access w/Broadcom Gigabit

I have a Dell 8400 that has an broadcom 57xx gigabit network adapter.  I have downloaded all the Broadcom drivers and will try tonight to see if it is compatiable with the Verizon High speed data modem.  So far, it doesn't reconize the Verizon modem through the ethernet connection.  Since the modem had a y-cable, I used the USB end and at least it recognized that I hooked up new hardware and downloaded the appropriate files, but it still hung up (mainly due to Could not renew IP address, showing 0.0.0.0).  Do I need to replace my ethernet card with say an Intel Pro card to get this compatible or should this one work?  My old USB connected modem died and the ethernet connection comes up empty.  So do I try a system restore to get defaults back on computer, then load Broadcom drivers and then try reinstalling the the modem and software?

Your current card will work fine.  Ethernet is better than USB.  Many DSL ISPs require special software to handle the PPPoE authentication if you use an ethernet connection.  Why not contact your ISP and walk through things with them?

There was a problem with my operating system.  So the folks I had looking at my computer reinstalled the XP operating system and the card then worked fine.  The DSL Modem through the  Ethernet connection worked immediately when hooked up.  I have since upgraded to a Netgear-N router for wireless and it has worked even better and has allowed wireless connections throughout the house.  Note, they had to back up my computer (data) prior to to reinstalling OS and then I reinstalled my Norton Antivirus software.  Everything is much quicker and working better.  They NewAge who worked on computer indicated that they gave my computer a "tune-up."  It was worth the money invested into having them do this.
