Windows XP - SDRAM Upgrade Inquiry

Windows XP - Desktop Dell XPS 400

My PC came with 1 GB DDR2 SDRAM @ 533 MHZ - 2X512 MB installed in two slots. There are 2 additional vacant slots.

Can I upgrade the memory by adding 2 GB SDRAM of 1GB each (1 GB in each slot) for a total of 3 GB, or must it be only 512 MB memory sticks? In other words, must all 4 slots have the same parity @ 512 MB or 1 GB in order not to have any memory issues? Should the MHZ be the same for all memory sticks?

Thank you for your help.

You should be able to added 2 x 1gb modules of compatible RAM to the 2 x 512mb modules without a problem, giving a total of 3gb.

You can buy memory that's certified to be compatible with the XPS 400, from HERE
