Todd, Can You Solve This Green Dilemma?

My daughter has a Dell Inspiron E1405.  We ordered a new battery for her while she was living in Argentina.  Brought the battery down to her when we went to visit at Christmas.  Turns out it was COMPETELY wrong--wouldn't even come near to fitting in her computer.  By the time we got back from Argentina, however, Dell's self-imposed 30-day limit for fixing its self-created problems expired.

I was so glad to see that Dell now has a commitment to being green, because I'm sitting here with a brand new battery that is probably filled with toxic stuff.  What am I supposed to do with it?  Throw it away (plus its $150 price tag?)  This doesn't seem like a very green approach, but it seems the only one open to me.  Can the new green Dell help me?

Mary,

Sorry for the delayed response.  If you could, please send me via private message your computer's Service Tag number, and I will talk to some people here about what can be done.

Thanks,

Todd

Re: Todd, Can You Solve This Green Dilemma?

Thanks for getting back to me Todd.  I could not find any tool for sending a private message, so I am just having to post here.  The "email Todd" button didn't allow input of a message.

Anyway, we have looked for our computer's Service Tag number and all we can find is a Certificate of Authenticity number: <ADMIN NOTE : Certificate of Authencity Number removed per privacy policy>

On the Acknowledgement for the battery shipment there is this Order Number:  <ADMIN NOTE : Order Number removed per privacy policy>  and this Invoice Number:  <ADMIN NOTE : Invoice Number removed per privacy policy>.  And there is also this number by our name:  <ADMIN NOTE : Express Service Code removed per privacy policy>.   The battery shipped to us was "Item Number 310-5195--53 Watt-hour Additional Primary Batter for Inspiron 600m"  (although we ordered a battery for an Inspiron E1405.)

Thanks a lot for helping me with this.  We recycle and reuse religiously, and have gotten our trash output down to one small grocery bag per week.  My business is also dedicated to green eating, so it really disheartens me to have to just pitch a perfectly usable battery.

Best

Mary,

You'd like to exchange the battery you have for the right battery for the system you have, correct?

Thanks,
Todd

Re: Todd, Can You Solve This Green Dilemma?

That would be perfect, Todd.  And again, sorry about communicating via the Board.  Can you tell me how to do a private reply?  As I mentioned the "email Todd" link doesn't work.
