Built in webcam wont work on messenger?

I have a Dell Studio XPS 16 with a built in webcam. The webcam works with the dell webcam program but when I go to use it on windows messenger it says that it is already in use and shows a grey screen. I checked device manager and it is not in use and I have the newest driver. How can I get it to work?

I had the same issue when I first got this computer a month ago, the only way i could get it to work was to turn off the facial recognition software.

However, now it isn't working with messenger any more. Any time I try a video chat it won't let me connect to the other webcam to send and receive video. I can see my own camera but not the person I am chatting with. furthermore, the webcam looks fine in the native software on the Dell, but as soon as I turn on messenger the picture is grainy and pixelated. My three year old Sony laptop with an integrated webcam sends better video than this webcam. Is there anyone out there who might have a fix for this?
