Studio XPS 1340 Overheating

Until Dell ships the newer vent cover, I removed the current vent cover to allow more hot air to be expelled from the system chassis. I also loaded the latest A07 Bios and A06 video card driver. Understand, this is just a workaround until Dell can release the new plastic vent cover.

* Power the system off
* Turn it over with the hinges away from you
* Remove the 10 phillips screws holding the Base Cover
* Remove the Base Cover
* On the top right you will see a plastic vent cover with 16 vent holes
* Remove the two phillips screws and lift the plastic vent cover off
* Replace the Base Cover

Using this workaround, I can run the system with Hybrid SLI on with no overheating.

Hi, Will this vent cover be available for purchase for current owners of XPS 1340? If so, how and when we can upgrade our existing covers?

Hello Lucho87 I have the exact same problem, only that I live in Brazil. There is a couple of things you can try: You can do the live chat and they can help you from there, wherever you are. And the other thing is find out if there is a Dell store in Argentina, there must be.

Good luck!

Re: Studio XPS 1340 Overheating

Chris Is this the new "re-designed vent cover"?  Because I was just on the phone with tech support, and they told me they found a solution to my problem by switching my motherboard to a newly redisigned motherboard, and a new redesigned vent covers, however i wasnt able to pull out any such news from google or any forums, and havent seen any pics of a new vent.  If I understand u correct u got/ or recieving a new vent? Can you provide any pix?

Re: Studio XPS 1340 Overheating

WOW, Unfortunatly Dell went to all time LOW and lied to me!  they sent the exact same vent cover to replace, whats the point or replacing a medal chassy peace for another exactly the same one? sent me a new fan, mine was working perfectly fine, and they sent me a new mobo, this one no longer has the dell logo, guessing because its not branded... Dell's supervisor is full of it! Nothing but liers! He told me its gona be a new redesigned fan and airvent thats bigger. HAHAHA Im never buying a dell and telling all of my friends to run if they see a DELL

Re: Studio XPS 1340 Overheating

Hey Chris, I decided to try your technique, but i was only able to get one of the screws off on the back.

No matter how hard i try the other screws won't budge to move. Does Dell sauder the screws in? If not are there any special ways of getting them off? I even tried wearing latex gloves to get better grip.

Any advice would be appreciated, thanks in advance!

Well, every company's tech support lies and every laptop gets too hot for real lap-top use. Try using Arctic Silver... most of the users are benefited from this thermal compound. My XPS 13 is on the way and I've already placed an order for Arctic Silver.

Same problem here, but the overheating has damaged the LCD screen on my system.

I'm in the process of contacting support, but the online systems are not accepting my service tag! Very frustrating...
