I have a solution: (proverbially) Yell, scream, complain, and get to their escalation team. I got them to first replace the motherboard and daughterboard of my Dell Studio 1737. When the Blue Screens continued, my office manager got through to their escalation team and they sent me a new computer.
There is No Solution for the atikmdag error! I've spent over 25 hours now trying to deal with it. And in fact when you go to the ATI website and look up the ATI Mobility Radeon 3650 video card, they tell you there that all drivers are by the manufacturers! So it seems that Dell is fully responsible for this problem. Despite the fact that they claim to know nothing about the problem. Yeah, right.
So I got the new computer and they sent me one with lower resolution! I had a 17" 1920x1200 resolution. They sent me a 17" again but at 1440x900 resolution. I've been playing phone tag now for a week with the Escalation Team rep from India, for him to explain to me why they no longer make the 1920x1280 LCD screen for this notebook computer. Could it be that they made a FLAWED product? Seems so to me.
Meanwhile, I have no idea how much extra I paid for that resolution screen, but they better figure out how they are going to compensate me. They claim to have put in a video card with upgraded memory, but I see no evidence of the difference. And besides, what is the point of having more video RAM if I have less resolution? I don't need it, right?
Situation continues. I am holding the old notebook computer hostage until they give me a satisfactory explanation. What are they going to do, sell it as refurbished to some fool who is going to have this same problem in a couple weeks?
Until this computer I've been extremely happy with Dell and with their Gold Service Team. This notebook changes everything. I'm not sure whether they want my company to continue doing business with them. I own the company so it is my decision. They have a limited amount of time available to prove whether they can still be trusted. Its not too long until I need to replace another computer in my office and add one more for one of my employees. I wonder if Dell cares to resolve this and compensate me for losing my screen resolution? Good luck Justin.
