installing a CD drive from Dell 2400 into a xps 410 is it possible and how do you do it

I have a cd drive from a dead 2400 i would like to add it to my xps 2400 for a second drive, anyone know how to do this and what drivers i might need

If the drive is not  SATA and is IDE then you will not be able to as there is no IDE connector on the system board. IDE uses the multi-pin flat cable.

It is not really worth adding in a IDE card to the system either as IDE drives will be slower than a SATA drive.

If you want to install an IDE optical drive internally, you could use a PCI IDE controller card.

The easiest method would be to use a USB, powered 5.25" IDE enclosure similar to THIS, but for about the same price as the external enclosure, or controller card, you can buy a SATA optical drive.
