Hi, I just got a M1330 and it's great
I want to do a triple boot with vista, windows 7, and media direct 3.5.
Thanks to zrtom and others on the web who helped me get this far.
I used Gparted (from partedmagic.com) to edit my partitions with hopes of achieving the triple boot. I shrank the C: down to 100gb leaving about 180gb unallocated. Then I expanded the extended partition that media direct is on to take up that unallocated space. I created a 100gb window7 ntfs logical partition and a 80gb data ntfs logical partition inside that extended partition.
I now have the following configuration:
primary partitions
94mb Dell Diagnostics
10gb Recovery
100gb Windows vista C: Drive
180gb Extended Partition
Inside the extended Partition I have:
100gb windows 7 partition (logical)
80gb data partition (logical)
2.5 gb Media Direct (some software calls this a logical drive, windows calls it primary)
So my main 3 questions are:
1. Can I install windows 7 on the logical partition? If not how can I install it?
2. What will installing windows 7 do to media direct?
3. The windows 7 install is just for fun/experimentation. I will probably want to install Linux (openSUSE) on this partition later, also just for fun/experimentation. Any suggestions about that? Can Linux install on the logical partition?
Thanks for any help you can give!
P.S. Here is a great resource if you have any interest in multiple booting, particularly with the XPS M1330.
