Horizontal Line

I have recently had a black horizontal line appear on my monitor. The line shows over top of every program that is running. I cannot figure out what I need to do. If you have any ideas of how to get rid of the line, please let me know.

Does the line appear in safemode?

Does the line appear while running the monitor slef test?
* Turn off the monitor
* Unplug the monitor from the computer (ALL cables)
* Plug the monitor power cord directly into the wall socket
* Turn on the monitor
* The floating red/green/blue/white dialog box should appear on screen against a black background

I ran the monitor self test and the black line still appears over the black background and colored dialog box. Do I need to check safemode? If so, how is that done?
