Dell XPS M1330 connect to Philips 42" TV

Hi Guys,

I've been having problems connecting the laptop to the TV. I bought a high quality HDMI cable to connect both machines but each time I connect both ends up the laptop goes a bit crazy. A blue screen pops up and it starts dumping physical memory followed by restarting.

Any ideas on what might be going wrong for me here and how to rectify?

Thanks in advance!

Hi Kenny,

Did you have any luck sorting this problem out?

I have had an identical experience with my XPS M1730 and  our Phillips 42" LCD at the office. I can connect to external LCD monitors OK and can connect to my Samsung 42" plasma at home with no trouble but when I tried to connect to the Phillips I got the BSOD.

I am having trouble finding answers as well.

Same problem here with an XPS M1330 and a Philips 42'' LCD. Connecting them with a HDMI cable results in a blue error screen on my laptop. Did you guys have any luck in solving the problem? Tomorrow I'll try updating the laptop and the LCD firmware.

Hi Markko,

I still have had no luck with this.

I have upgraded to Windows 7 64 bit since I posted here but I have not yet tested the connection to the office tv.

I'll do that today sometime and post the results. I'll include the model number of the Phillips TV as well.

Re: Dell XPS M1330 connect to Philips 42" TV

Hi Markkko,

As I mentioned in my previous post I recently updated my OS to Windows 7 64 bit. I used the 64 bit Vista drivers from Dell where I could and 32 bit drivers where I couldn't. nVidia drivers are 64 bit and work fine although the nVidia control panel seems a little flakey so I set up displays with the Windows 7 display settings.

I hadn't plugged it into the offending TV until today and when I did i found that it is now working perfectly.

Go figure...

So

  • TV: Phillips 42" LCD Model 42PFL7422
  • Laptop: Dell XPS M1730
  • Graphics: Dual nVidia GeForce 8700M GT
  • OS: Windows 7 Enterprise 64 bit (clean install)
  • nVidia Drivers: 64 bit  version 7.15.11.7678

I hope that you find this useful.

Thank you, Inglegroove.

I just updated drivers and firmware. Will try if the HDMI connection works this weekend.
