Has anyone taken delivery of the New Studio XPS 435/8000/9000?

I have one on order with the delivery date of 4/1/09.  If anyone has been shipped theirs and had time to put it through it's paces, please comment on what you think. If not please post your expected ship dates so we will know who will be the first to comment!

Thanks!

Re: Has anyone taken delivery of the New Studio XPS 435?

Great listing XBL!!

Based on your descriptions below - mine is off though....but, I think I originally listed it incorrectly.

My 'Ship Date' is 3/24

'Delivery Date' is 3/31

--------------------------------------

Thanks for putting that list together!

Mine's still 'in production'....and in the build stage.....nothing in my setup is that unusual - so not sure what the delay is compared to others that have received it....Like everyone else I'm getting a little impatient to receive it....

Re: Has anyone taken delivery of the New Studio XPS 435?

Ah! Yes, I was thinking that maybe some people got the two words confused (ship vs. delivered) so that was bound to happen. No worries!

I meant to add to that post that, as most of us know anyway, a part ordered with a delay will delay your expected ship and delivery dates. As discussed already, the 4850 video card and the blu-ray burner are the two main culprits postponing ship dates.

I would sincerelly expect my 435T to ship 1 week early going by others' recent orders and the fact that I didn't and still don't have any delayed parts. That means I should be able to get a shipped email on the 24th if not earlier. That'd be great!

If I had known Dell doesn't charge you until after they build your system, I probably would have gotten a super-upgraded 435MT. I kept coming to Dell for weeks building a 435MT monster (as mentioned before) not only to figure out exactly what I wanted, but also because I was waiting on my big bonus from work to come in as I didn't have the funds. Then I started building a 435T doing the same thing with figuring out what I want and waiting for funds. It's a good thing I didn't know the stage Dell charges you though, because I'd have a 435MT now and be regretting it a little bit.

Patience is not a virtue of mine at all!

XBL aer,

They don't charge your card until the system ships but they do put a hold on the funds - it just doesn't show the hold.  You need to chill out.  You are getting all worked up over nothing!  It will come.

Re: Has anyone taken delivery of the New Studio XPS 435?

Update..

Just called the phone system - now states it's in the "Kitting Stage" (instead of the previous "Build Stage") - my understanding of this phase (per previous threads) is this is where it's actually assembled / built / shipped - usually within 1-2 days timeframe...  Still states the same shipping date.. but hopefully should be shipped later tonight/tomorrow.. Big Smile

Oh - and also - noticed the rampant thread with regards to the 25% off coupon .. I was able to get the same deal (coupon was only available for a very short period) - actually had a previous 20% coupon - but found the 25% off - which prompted me to reorder and upgrade the video card for less than the price of the original 20% order...

Re: Has anyone taken delivery of the New Studio XPS 435?

I am not well versed in Dell's definition of their terms but to me "build" means they're gathering the parts and 'building' the actual computer. "Kitting" to me means putting your system and it's packaging together with it's paperwork, driver and backup discs, etc. Just my .02 on that. I would still agree yours should be shipping in a day or two then so congrats!

I wouldn't have actually saved close to $500 had I used the coupon code as I intended to, but rather would have upgraded a couple other things. I probably would have then went with 12gb ram instead of 6 and also gotten the blu-ray burner (which is causing deays now). I could always call that phone number and use option #2 to actually cancel my order, then hope another coupon code like that pops up in the future but at this point I've accepted my loss on that and just want the computer. :)

Newegg has three 12gb DDR3 ram stick kits. I am surprised they don't have more than just three but the cheapest one is $189 here:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227401

I may upgrade to this 12gb kit when I get my 435T but then again I'd want to resell my 6gb that comes with it and you can't resell ram for much and if I don't resell it then I wasted money upgrading to the 6gb in the first place. I still may do it but we'll see.

Re: Has anyone taken delivery of the New Studio XPS 435?

Yes, I thought I read somewhere that the 'in production' phase goes as follows:

Kitting -> Build -> Testing -> Boxing -> Shipping -> You

....but I'm certainly no expert - just recall reading that somewhere...

Re: Has anyone taken delivery of the New Studio XPS 435?

There will likely be another 25% off coupon coming soon.  There always seem to be one around.  I had actually been ready to buy a 435MT and had a 25% off for that but wanted to research monitors one last time.  When I decided it was too late to use that particular coupon (it had expired).  Then the 435T came out and there was a new coupon available I used, it was 20%, then the 25% came out and I cancelled that order and reordered with the 25% coupon.  There are many coupon sites like Slickdeals, Fatwallet, Couponmountain,Techbargins, so you should always check for awhile before buying a Dell, unless you really need it quickly.  This also goes for monitors and other products Dell sells.

I wouldn't think Dell would honor a lower price after the purchase since the coupons expire with time or the amount of times they are used.  They need a coupon number to punch into the system to generate the discount. If one becomes available before yours ship you might be able to cancel your order and reorder but it will delay your computer to whatever the current shipping date is.

Otherwise, your only choice for a discount is to cancel your order and wait for another coupon to show up, which they will.  On the other hand you felt the purchase was a decent deal at the price you paid so don't beat yourself up over the discount.  You will get to use your new computer instead of using the old one to check the coupon sites everyday for the discount.  I just assume my 25% off deal will be beaten by someone else.

Yeah - after a little further research I found the same "path" as you've described above.  Also - after additional searching on kitting vs. building @ dell - it appears that this is actually typical (i.e. the system will sometimes report: Build (in reality Pre-Production / waiting on parts / verifying payment / order / etc.) -> Kitting -> Build (Actual Build) -> Testing -> Boxing -> Shipping -> You...

Apparently - at any given time, if the system is "between" statuses, etc. - it'll default to "Build" - which sort of makes sense (from a programmatic POV) - but can be frustrating, etc.  They really should have a separate status (i.e. Pre-Production -> Payment Verified -> Order Accepted -> Waiting on Parts -> Kitting -> Building -> Testing -> Boxing -> Shipping -> You - anything in between should show "In Processing - last status: <value>" ).  But what do I know?. :)

Either way - a status of Kitting definitely means that, at least according to the system, apparently there's *some* movement on the PC and that it's now at least in the process of being built .. Hopefully it won't be much longer.

Re: Has anyone taken delivery of the New Studio XPS 435?

I ordered one on Feb 15th, and with a shipment date of March 4th; however, iduntbleveit, they keep delaying the delivery date every 3-7 days. Now they say it won't be shipped until March 27th. iduntbleveit!!!

Good Luck! Let me know what is transpiring. Here is the latest email from them.

Thank you for contacting Dell Online Customer Care.

I understand your concern; however, I am unable to determine the reason for the delay of your order. The most current information we have is that your order number 6453.... should ship on or before the Estimated Delivery Date of 3/27/2009.

Re: Has anyone taken delivery of the New Studio XPS 435?

I placed my order on 2/23 and had an original ship date of 3/11.  It has been changed twice since then and is now set up for a delivery date of 3/31.  I got an email today from them informing me of the delay and asked me to inform them if I want to continue with the purchase or cancel the order.  I called the phone number and it said the status is "build".  Hope I get this pc soon as it's been over 10 weeks since my last computer bit the dust.

Re: Has anyone taken delivery of the New Studio XPS 435?

Got mine today and got it finally up and running about an hour ago.

I purchased 12G OCZ (1333) memory upgrade and replaced the 3G that came in my machine.   Also installed a Black Magic Intensity HDMI input/output adapter.

Had a 3 drive Raid array in my old system.  Transferred the 3 drives into the 435T.  There are two slots under the system drive.  Placed two there.  The third drive I had problem installing.  There is a spare 5 1/4" bay and two 3 1/2" bays under the DVD drive (only ordered one DVD drive).  Unfortuanately, power connections are limited.  There is a total of 5 Sata type power connections inside the machine.  Three are located on one cable that will supply the 3 3-1/2" hard drive bays (near the bottome of the case).  The other two are on one cable that feeds the two 5-1/4" bays (near the top of the case).   The power connection would not reach the third hard drive of my array.  Had to go to a couple stores to find a 3-1/2" to 5-1/4" drive adapter.  Overall, just a minor annoyance.

Powered up the 435T, no problems.  (except the card reader is not reading SD, Compact Flash or Smart Media cards.)

System recognizes the 12G of memory at 1066 (haven't played with bios setting to see if that can be changed).  Also recognizes the Black Magic adapter.

Impressed with the quality of the build and components.  Fan noise is not a problem except when I restart the computer.  It seems that the fan is preparing for take-off.

Now I just need how to reconfigure the raid array without affecting the system drive.

Regards....
