2408WFP - DisplayPort Audio doesn't work

Dear Dell Community members,

I am experiencing problems getting audio output through the DisplayPort interface of the 2408WFP monitor.

The setup is as follows:

My video card (nVidia 9600M GT) is connected through DisplayPort to the 2408WFP. The audio out of the monitor is connected to a pair of simple desktop speakers. Video works just fine, but I cannot get any sound at all.

At first I suspected the video card, but when I plug the DisplayPort out of the video card, through an DP->HDMI adapter, to the HDMI Input of the monitor, I get sound.

Looking at the spec, I did not see it stated anywhere that the 2408WFP supports audio via the DisplayPort interface. Is it really not supported? Or is there a problem with my monitor?

Has anyone successfully managed to get the 2408WFP to pass audio when connected via DisplayPort?

We don't support audio on displayPort.

Many thanks for your answer, Jimmy P. This clarifies the situation for me.

What about the bigger brother 3008WFP, which also has DisplayPort? Is the situation the same?

Do you believe this functionality may be added in future firmware updates, or is it a strict hardware limitation?

I'm waiting on clarification from our engineers, they say the limitation is that most video cards don't support sound through DisplayPort they are going to do some tests and let me know what the limitations are.
