Issues using AVerMedia HC82 Express-card Hybrid Analog/DVB-T

Hi

I've been trying to set up Windows Media Centre to play digital TV using the AVerMedia HC82 Express-card Hybrid Analog/DVB-T. During setup, however, WMC asks you to "Prepare for Set-top Box Setup", and I am unable to continue the setup without a set top box (which I don't have).

The way I am trying to setup is Antenna/Digital Terrestrial (DVB-T), I've noticed that by selecting cable it actually asks if you have a set top box, as far as I can tell it should also do this for antenna.

When I originally set up the card, WMC offered an automatic setup type thing which did it all for me, and managed to get me the digital TV I am now after (so I know it works). This automatic wizard is no longer available for some reason, even re-running the whole media centre setup doesn't get it back.

I've tried changing drivers, etc, from both AVerMedia and Dell, I've tried different types of TV setup to no avail. It seems to be that i'm missing some option in some menu in windows media centre, but not entirely sure.

Has anyone else had this problem, or know of any solution? Alternatively, is there some other free software you can use with this card?

System is Inspiron 1720, Vista 32-bit

Any ideas are appreicated, cheers.

Open windows media center>Settings>TV>Set Up TV Signal.

It will ask if you want to change the settings you have already entered, select yes.Now it will do what you are missing and look for the digital signal. This is the full installation as you did the first time set up.

This should walk you thru what you are looking for.

Sorry, I should've clarified, that is what I do do, but I can't get what I want. I'll list the screens I get:

Following your instruction, I then get:

Set Up Your TV Signal> Confirm Your Region (Australia) > Download TV Setup Options > Select Your TV Signal (antenna) > Select Your TV Signal Type (Digital Terrestrial DVB-T) > Prepare for Set-Top Box Setup

Searching the net I've seen that other people get a "Would you like WMC to automatically do this" or something to that effect, however I get no such message. In the above steps I've put anytime I get a choice in brackets.

Instead of selecting Antenna, choose cable(if you have an incoming cable line to the tuner) under the cable selection as you mentioned,it does ask if you have a set top box.It also lets you select without,or no set top box, just incoming cable line if my memory is correct.I do not have my tuner attatched at the moment so i can not verify that.

Yeah, I tried doing it that way and it does manage to set itself up working, but only with analog channels, still can't digital channels, and it doesn't ask me to choose between the two at any point.

I know you said something about changing drivers with this card or trying different drivers, have you changed the driver since you last had the digital channels detected?...If so,do you remember which driver version it was?...

Re: Issues using AVerMedia HC82 Express-card Hybrid Analog/DVB-T

Right, I couldn't remember which one it was, except for it was the original one, so I've deleted all avermedia software and drivers and reinstalled the one on my recovery disk I got with the computer.

I tried going through setup just telling it I did have a set top box, I can get through to the end but for some reason it assigned 1-999 to the one channel, and the option to scan for stations is gone. The set top box part seems to be all about the remote control rather than anything else, I was able to get through just by plugging in the dell remote I got with the computer. The channel I got was HD or digital, so the card is working, it just seems to be the setup part. I also tried cable again, and it only detected analog channels.

I've checked out some more stuff on the internet and it looks to me the problem is something with the software... It doesn't make any sense but it isn't offering me all the options, I'll ask on microsoft forums and see if I can find a solution.
