studio 15 sound problems

Now I have done a little reading and see that the studio 15 does not have the best sound but at full volume it is still extreamly hard to hear! I just got this 2 days ago and besides putting a couple programs on it when I got it nothing has changed. It had this vol right out of the box, the speakers sound tinny and are less then 1/2 the vol of my Inspiron 1505!

Is this just how it is or is there something I can do?

Thanks

Re: studio 15 sound problems

Try reinstalling/updating the audio drivers?

Re: studio 15 sound problems

Well I did try to update and it said they were the latest drivers, as for re installing would I just go to device manager and un install them there then re install? Do I need to download anything? I find it crazy that I would have to do this on a new out of the box laptop

You don't need to uninstall them.

Audio drivers usually include a standard setup/install file.  Reinstalling/updating the drivers, is a simple matter of double-clicking that file.

It 'sounds' like you've already got the latest drivers available?

But you can double-check, by going to the 'Support --> Downloads & Drivers' section for your laptop on the Dell website.

Indeed.   But reinstalling/updating the drivers is just one suggestion of course.   It might not be the answer to your problem?

If you continue have problems, after reinstalling/updating the audio drive, I'd suggest you'd probably be best advised contacting tech support, to see what they can suggest?

They *may* ask for your permission to take control of your laptop remotely, because it's easier to diagnose problems that way.  It's advisable  to allow them to do so, if they so request it.

If they can't fix the problem, they'll likely organise sending a technician/engineer out to you.

Good luck Wink

Re: studio 15 sound problems

Before you go reinstalling stuff, did you open the mixer and make sure that Wave, SW Synth and all of the devices are turned up.  Often, these are set at 50% at default.  Of course, how you change the settings depends on the software, drivers, etc.  Sometimes, the answer is much more simple than it would seem.

Re: studio 15 sound problems

Yes I checked that first, several times in fact. I also just reinstalled the drivers and still get the same low tinny sound. It sounds like the speakers are blown to me. I guess my next step is to call support or try to find another studio 15 and listen to the speakers on that.

Re: studio 15 sound problems

Have you made sure that all of the sound enhancements are off?  Like the DSP and stuff like that.

Control Panel --> Sound --> Speakers --> Properties --> Enhancements?
