Studio 1535 combo usb/esata port functionality (ever? Dell Tech? Bios Update?)

I have a 1535 bought a few months ago that has the physical port that is a combo usb/esata port. However it does not currently function as a esata? I know that the 1537 models show it as a actual functioning port (as seen in the list of features), so can we 'ever' expect a bios update to enable this on our 1535 models that do indeed have the port?

I'd like a true Dell tech response on this if possible (someone that knows what they are talking about, not a basic dell troubleshooter).

I no of no other way to get a response from Dell  Can a Dell representative on this forumn please pass the question on to technical staff or R&D to see if this is a feature we can ever expect to see function on the 1535, or is it impossible?

Hello?

Any response from Dell, we're having expectations about a new BIOS update (last one was 07/31/08), almost 6 months ago!!!

Please attend to 1535 users!!

Thanks

BIOS update won't solve this issue.

Bottom line is that the eSATA port on 1535/1735 Studios are a dummy port.. i.e. no eSATA controller was included on the systemboard.

Port can still be used for USB...

For a functioning eSATA port look to the Studio 1536/1537/1737 which included the controller on the system board.

and you know this 'how'???  Dell refuses to chime in on this.  I've followed the thread you quote later for months and it neither brings any insight on the matter.  we all know that the later models have it enabled.  As to why it does not work on the 1535 has not been confirmed yet.  Whether its a 'lacking' component or a bios update is yet to be substantiated.
