1815dn and Duplex Printing

Hi all,

I have the 1815dn printer and find that duplexing doesn't always work with the printer paper that I normally use (20 lb).  It seems to work with heavier paper though.  Is that normal?

Sincerely,

Amol

It should work fine with 20lb paper.

What kind of problem are you seeing?

The paper tends to have a slight crease/wrinkle when I use paper that is 20lb.  When I use heavier papers (22 or 24 lbs), duplexing works without creating any wrinkles.

Ahhh.... so the duplexing DOES work, but adds a wrinkle.

Is it occasionally, or always, wrinkling on 20lb?

To add.... the only fix I've seen for this issue is fuser replacement. And at that, it seems to be a temporary fix as the issue invariably returns. Of course, it depends on how much duplex printing you do.

It always wrinkles with the 20lb paper.  I really don't use duplexing too often but then again, I may be more tempted to use it if it didn't wrinkle.  I do notice though that if you manually duplex, the wrinkle/crease seems to be smaller.

Dell-jimmy,

I'm having a similar issue. I get a jame every time I try to Duplex print. The paper seems to get caught and ripped in the duplexer. Any ideas?

Re: 1815dn and Duplex Printing

You might note this thread was started well over a year ago......

Anyway, you probably have a problem with your duplexer tray or paper remnants in the path. Just slide it out the back and look at it real closely. See if any debris from a prior jams remains in here and clean it all out.

While you have the duplex tray removed:
1. Power off the printer and remove all cables (data & power)
2. Remove the paper tray and Toner cartridge.
3. Rotate the entire printer up on it's backside and inspect the guide areas where the duplex path feeds. You shouldn't see any paper bits or remnants in here.... anywhere. If you do, dig it out.

Yep. just didn't find anything more recent. I tried it and had no luck. It's still jamming every time I try to duplex print.

Re: 1815dn and Duplex Printing

Guess I should have taken care of this under warranty.  My refurb 1815dn has already wrinkled about 50% of duplexed pages.  That said, I don't use the feature all that much.
