720 XPS Screech Again ON 2nd 720

This cannot be happening.. im on my second XPS 720 with the Screech of Death.  2 Brand new 720's have had the same problem.. the sound cards are dell branded Xtremegamers..  2 new 720's within a month .. Why is this happening..   the screech stated on second 720 as soon as installed skype 3.5 for windows ..the new 720 is less than 12 hours in my hands .  Do u think its the skype software that is causing this..  i have a HP Blackbird and have had no problems..

i just reverted back to the factory install on my brand new XPS 720 , installed only Skype for windows 3.5 , i got the Screech from speakers as soon as i installed and opened Skype 3.5 for windows with the Dell Xtremegamer sound card..   skype is the only software I've installed with the factory install..  Screech from speakers i lose my sound or  one or 2 of my 5.1 speakers.. with the extreme gamer dell card..maybe someone from Dell could be kind enough to look into this issue please.

Sorry that I can not help you with your problem, but if you only installed Skype on factory shipped image from Dell than Skype maybe at fault;

 

Not to hijack your thread, but I have a question, since you have XPS720 and HP Blackbird; I read some reviews, i.e. Anandtech and Maximum PC, they claim that the HP is much “noisier” than XPS; so I am just wondering from a real-world user prospective what is your take comparing the noise issue.

 

On the record I have no intention getting HP’s Blackbird; The XPS720 is notch faster or on pair performance vise depending on games when booth rigs are configured same.

Move the sound card to a different PCI slot and check for the issue.

actually the Blackbird is quieter than my 720 ,  i can hardly hear any noise from the Blackbird and no HD noise at all  but the 720 is fan noisy and the hardrive is noisy ..as for the speed in my opinion HP Blackbird  is much faster than the 720.. my 720 has a QX 6800  and my Blackbird has a QX6850... i find the 720 a slow machine .. it could be vista  but the Blackbird has vista as well , to compare my xps 600  with XP opens programs faster than my vista 720. on the game front the Blackbird is Awesome no comparison and the reviews u read i think are the pre released  Blackbird not the official retail released

Placed Dell Branded   X-FI Extreme gamer in a different PCI slot... reinstalled factory image .. installed Skype for Windows 3.5  , screech happened right away when Skype was installed and opened . Out of Options  i Believe ?.. Dell Canada will dislike my next phone call..

Reinstall the A03 bios. Restart the PC when done.

Try installing this Creative driver on top of ours.

Ok ill try as u suggested , but when i tried to install the Creative driver from the Creative site  on this  720 i received yesterday i get error "no compatable device  found" in my machine , also same error on the 720 machine i sent back to Dell... give me 15 mins ill post back..

Flashed Bios with A03  , Install was successful.  Tried to install the Creative drivers  this error appears on the install..
"Setup is unable to Detect A Supported Product On Your System. Please Ensure Your Product Is Properly Installed before Running This Setup Program. Setup will Exit"   Same Error I've received on both XPS 720;s I've had.. others cannot install the Creative Drivers as well with the Dell Branded XtremeGamer..  This is what i noticed  with the Bios reinstall ,  Fans are running faster as there is more fan noise and fan speed seems faster , I've run a check on vista for software and hardware compatibility  with the vista performance and tools  found no compatible issues ..

If you are only getting the "screech" with Skype installed then obviously this software is what is at fault.
 
Uninstall the Skype.............do you still have the same problem?
 
I also had problems trying to intall the Creative Drivers with the same error message which tells me that Creative needs to address this issue.
 
These are issues that will eventually be resolved with alittle time and patience.
 
My XPS720 Red is super quiet and I have 3 other computers that I am comparing it to.

* Reinstall Bios A02
* Reboot the PC when done
* Reinstall XPS 720 Serial ATA nVidia MediaShield driver
* Reboot the PC when done
* Remove all of the Dell X-Fi software and drivers from the Control Panel
* Reinstall the Dell X-Fi driver
* Reboot the PC when done

Skype was not the problem as i uninstalledthe program..  Screech and what sounds like an electrical problem through speakers.. im about to try A02 , reinstall media sheild  and reinstall the audio drivers as Chris-M suggested.. ill post back..this is an intermitant problem , but makes the 720 unusable.
