XPS 600...slow system speeds...any help?

Experiencing slow system speeds with my releatively new XPS 600 desktop.  System has P4 3.4g with 2gb ram...but still seem slow to open files and run programs, etc.

Any similiar issues, fixes, etc. out there?

Thanks,

J Hall

Re: XPS 600

Did you uninstall all the Dell bloatware when you got your system?  Do you have security software that's updated everyday?  Do you defrag your HDD(s) on a regular basis?  Have you updated a device driver recently?

You may have contracted a virus or some other malware.  Unfortunately the cure after infection is usually very difficult to achieve.  My gf had a variant of SpyFalcon on our PC a couple of months ago and it was a chore and a half to eradicate.  Luckily there's this awesome resource called the World Wide Web.

Yes. spyware is mcafee and all up to date, with spam, antivirus, etc - all green there...cache files and temporary internet file (even offline content) all cleaned regurarly...minimum dell bloatware if any.  HD doesnt need defrag quite yet...no drivers updated recently either...

Re: XPS 600

McAfee, in my experience, is a terrible application, hogging up system resources than most other AV solutions, and leading to generic things like leaking memory.

I tried McAfee that came free for 90 days or whatever when I bought my system, but uninstalled it after 2 days because my 600 was crawling.  I replaced it with Symtanec AntiVirus and have been very happy with its performance and protection.  Combined with Lavasoft Ad-Aware and occasional Panda Software ActiveScans, I haven't had any problems.

Go to pandasoftware.com and run a free online ActiveScan.  This will let you know if there's anything bad on your system.  If not, you might want to consider another AV solution.

Re: XPS 600

I've got to disagree w/ you in regard to Symantec AV. It's also a system hog.
The lightest/ fastest AV is -without a doubt NOD32.

this is not IMHO, it'sa fact!
