I cannot find a driver for this device on the provided cd nor the dell website.

They list a AverMedia device but the drivers dont work so i dont think its this.

A google search brings up a Hauppauge device but none of the 10+ drivers worked.

I have probably used it for some little hours after that say max an hour a day. Some days back it started giving trouble, Windows would load very late. Also the screen would flicker and there is some beep sound coming. I was not able to work on any of the applications.

I lodged a complaint with the techsupport and finay a Service Engineer came home after a week (Delay was due to "Parts not availbale"). He changed the RAM and MotherBoard and still the problem persists. It looked like he is doing a trial nad error procedure. He was unable to detect the issue and he said he will change the Hard disk and Keyboard which he will get by Saturday thats within Two days. Saturday he did'nt turn and I was finding difficulty to get through the XPS helpline. Finall After 45 minutes holding the call I got through a rep. Again th same issue, "Parts not available". I was fed up with the kind of service Dell was providing. I asked the rep to arrange for a reund or replace. He gave me an email Id and asked to coorespond with the person who's their manager. He has to get back to me yet.

I was never expecting a shobby and unprofessional service from Dell. Anybody who's planning to buy Studio XPS 16 please avoid it. Its got lot of issues and the worst is Dell XPS service. They will not send you all the software first, then they will make you wait for all the repairs and technical help. I Have wasted a lot of money on phone calls will keep posted about the status. I have heard that Dell service is particulaly pathetic in India.

Another thing; I wanted to buy a Studio 15 laptop for my wife and I have halted the plan. I asked the Sales ep to send me a quote and I have'nt got it for a month now. Even my Brother wanted to buy a Studio 15 in Dubai and he settled for lenovo after finding that Dell has no proper setup in Dubai and he did not get a quote for about a month.

No wonder Dell is not in good financial health.

The shutdown is repeatable with any 3D intensive program. I'm using the latest A08 BIOS and video card drivers, and I had the back of the laptop raised a bit for better ventilation. Has anyone else had this problem? I don't want to deal with tech support/sending my laptop in for repair in the middle of a university semester, so I'm going to wait until my break starts to contact them, if I don't find a fix before that.

Only 3 months old, fans and heatsink are free of dust, no malware whatsoever.

Oh yeah, and I had Speedfan open when i was re-checking it, the temperatures seemed perfectly acceptable with a high of 52 degrees Celsius.

Scroll and Zoom on touchpad don't work after upgrade...

Hi,

I recently had failure of Ge Force Go 7950 GTX in my XPS M1710 4 months out of warranty. Fortunately I had bought the machine using American Express so was covered by Amex Buyer's Advantage insurance and had excellent service from Amex once I got a quote to fix from Dell. I got 12 months' extended warranty and fix fom Dell. The first fix attempt was to install a refurbished video card which overheated in seconds when running a game. At second attempt Dell has replaced Video card, motherboard and fans and (fingers crossed) all appears OK so far.

I want to get the best possible out of this machine now so I would appreciate some advice about temperature monitoring software. I believe heat is enemy #1 for laptops, particularly high performance ones and I want some visibility into what is going on.

I have found positive comments about i8kfanGUI but I am concerned it may void my warranty as it affects fan control. Similarly I have concerns about RivaTuner.

For monitoring only software I have found HW Monitor 1.11 (not Pro) from CXPUID and Core Temp 0.99 which looks pretty basic and monitors core temperatures only.

Does anyone have advice about these or any other good alternatives?

Also, any comments about usefulness and effectiveness of laptop cooling mats?

HELP!
First the symptoms;

I was having keyboard problems; Some keys needed pressing several times and even then were problematical. The worst culprits were in a circle i-o-l-m-n-h-u, but it spread wider sometimes and sometimes was almost normal. What REALLY didn't help was that most of my logon password is in that circle :( Oh, and the arrow keys were working on a single press basis, holding them down did nothing.

Now it gets stranger; clicking onto the guest account, randomly typing in notepad, then coming back out and into my own account mostly cleared the problem for a while. It SEEMED like hardware mainly, but sometimes like software. I was abroad at the time so I was trying to put up with it until I got home and could call the help desk without needing a mortgage!

Anyway, on the day that I got home, the touchpad completely gave up, completely unresponsive. I'm getting annoyed by this time - the laptop is only 4 months old. I checked the website again and found something for the touchpad - drain the "flea power" (whatever that is). Did that and lo and behold, the keyboard was fixed. Go figure.

So, if anyone has similar problems, try draining the flea power - power down the laptop, disconnect everything, remove the battery, press and hold the power button for at least 5 seconds, then put it all back together and power it up.

I hope that this helps someone.

Inspiron 1525 Laptop goes to a Black Screen when typing

I am experiencing a with my Dell Inspiron 1525 Laptop, Vista operating system, that is quite annoyance, frustration and irritation to me. The problem simply put is that as I am typing on the Laptop, the screen will go black, and the only way to get back to doing what I working on, is to use the power button, one or two times) to get back to the user id screen to unlock my userid.
It usually happens if i go in some chat room, skype or playing alot of poker , so i think. Not sure since thats what i normally do. But i will be online and then all of a sudden by the clock, it will say battery not detected.

Also today i rebooted and then it said 100 percent fully charged after i unplugged everything and back in. I took the ac acapter out to see what would happen and it still said 100 percent like its still plugged in, so confused on that part. I don't have backup checked on battery area.

It will also sometimes say not charging and sometimes does say charging.. So im thinking maybe its an ac adapter issue or maybe i have no issues at all..

Right now i have ac adapter in, says 100 percent and fully charged. If i take ac adapter out it takes about 20 seconds for it to say 5 hours left which what mine says now. But as soon as i plug it back in, goes back up to 100 percent in like 3 seconds.

XPS M1530 USB power issue.

When I first cold boot my XPS M1530 USBs are not recognized properly particularly the integrated webcam but the issue exists also with external USB. Recently, it has developed the problem of being "plugged in, not charging." I have tried this with both my 6 and 9-cell batteries, and with three different chargers, and the problem has repeated itself, so I think it must be a computer issue. I think I have confirmed this by reading the computer info page (pardon the non-technical terminology) (accessed by pressing F2 from a boot screen) and going to the battery info page, where it states that the charging device is unrecognized (IIRC... I'll go back and look up the actual term in a jiffy.)

What would the solution to this problem be? Obviously, a laptop is not that useful if you have to plug it in all the time, and as my batteries are down to 1% and 0%, respectfully, this has been the case. I hope I won't half to replace anything

Thanks in advance,

In

if anyone has had any experience with the ST9500420AS in this
particular laptop. Seagate admits that there are issues with the ASG
model in Dell machines, but claim that there are no issues with the AS
model. I have seen in some forums that people claim that they have the
clicking/freezing problem with the AS models, also. I'm not sure if
they actually have the ASG and don't realize it or if there truly is a

Using rivatuner to measure, I idle at around 65-72 degree, and when I play modern games I peak at around 95 degrees (again, without overclocking), where as other users don't get far above 70 something when playing modern games. I've upgraded to the latest BIOS but that didn't help. Now I heard that this may be due to a faulty GPU, and that you can get it replaced for free with Dell so long as you are still within your warranty, the problem is I have no idea if I'm still within my warranty (I believe I got this laptop in the spring of 2008 but I don't quite recall, it may have actually been in 2007), and I may have voided it by downloading NVidia drivers with modded INF files from here: http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/ (is this the case?).

So as well as that, I also ask:

Is there any known solution to this problem without having to get the GPU replaced?

Has anyone heard of an issue to do with the modified drivers from laptopvideo2go and overheating (I will assume that isn't the problem unless people know otherwise)?

Power Issues E1705

I have an E1705 that has recently behaving quite strangely.

No system changes thus far besides replacing the AC adapter with the Dell part.

Symptoms:

Originally the issue was the display would not turn on with both the AC and battery connected. Upon removing the battery the system functioned perfectly on AC power along, as I surfed to Dell to find a replacement battery. Unfortunately the AC cable become disconnected and the system powered down abruptly. Now on startup the computer will not power on fully. The system power light illuminated, then after 2 seconds the system powers off completely.

Fixes so far tried:

Running off battery alone, Running of AC adapter alone, Reseating the memory and display cable connections inside the system, using an external monitor.

My battery clearly requires replacement, but it had been functioning on AC power. Now the system will not remain powered on long enough to even reach the Dell boot screen.

Ideas to try until I can order a replacement battery on Monday or is this an improper course of action if the system will not power on with AC alone??

So I came home to a frozen screen yesterday. Upon restart, I noticed dotted vertical lines going down my screen. The computer went black before it could boot. I tried again in safe mode and was somehow able to boot that a way. However, after restarting to try a chkdsk, I am unable to boot back up whether in safe mode or normal.

I ran a diagnostics and got the error code 5300:0119 during the video test. This apparently means my Dell Nvidia Geforce Go 7900 GTX is fried from overheating while I left my computer idling on my cooling pad (go figure). I thought maybe I could replace the video card, so I called Dell Spare Parts to see if I could get a 7900 GTX (I'm no longer under warranty, so pay for it since you can't get it anywhere else). They said I should talk to XPS Customer Care first (which I thought wasn't available to me since I'm no longer under warranty). I was transferred and XPS Customer Care told me that my video card is integrated and that I couldn't replace the video card - I'd have to replace the entire motherboard. She then attempted to transfer me to Sales, but instead transferred me to a busy signal.

So my question is, do I really have to replace the whole motherboard? I have read in several places where those with XPS M1710s have had just their video card replaced or even upgraded to the 7950 GTX. So is there a way to buy a new Dell Geforce Go 7900 GTX and install it into the motherboard? Or do I have to buy a new M1710 motherboard? If so, what's my cheapest option here? Should I might as well just buy a new PC? I feel a little left out to dry with my warranty having expired earlier this year...

Hard disk Clone

Can anyone tell me what is the largest hard drive that I can replace my present drive with.

I bought an Inspiron 1545 5 days ago, and I have noticed it tends to get hot on the left surface (over the hard disk and processor I guess). It doesn't hurt but I would like to ask you if that is ok. I bought an acer travelmate 4 years ago and it also used to get hot but not on the surface, only on the down side.

Also it would be nice if someone from Dell told me if the fan of this machine is software controllable. I think it would be better to make the fan keep running at low speeds than making it go to full speed when it gets too hot.

Thank you.

Studio 1535 to Windows 7...?

Hey, I'm pretty sure others will be interested in this too so I thought I'd ask here.

I bought the 1535 last year with Vista Home Premium 32-bit. I will be getting Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. Here are my questions:

1. Where would I find the correct drivers? Should I just use the Vista 64 drivers for Studio 1535?

2. If I had to format my HDD for some reason, would I be able to re-install Windows 7 with Upgrade media? I've read that the installation will ask for my Vista install disc - will the one that Dell supplied work for this?

Thanks in advance.

Studio 15 Laptop webcam not working

Hi all

Hi there, does anybody of you know how to set the built-in touchpad of the mini 10 so that it works properly? I especially have the problem that I like to operate the left and right key with the index finger of my left hand while I use the index finger of my other hand to slide over the pad (simultaneously). What works fine with all other laptops I used so far is a nightmare here as the keys are integrated into the pad and so the surface of the left and right key is being sensed by the pad while touching. Can anybody help me to get this solved? I updated the ELAN driver, however there is no new function which allows to exclude the pad's sensing area from the key area.

Many thanks in advance for your contributions!

After testing the system with Windows 7 advisor and gaining a Green for Go, I contacted Dell about the few hardware updates to be expected. They informed me that a week or two after Windows 7 launch date 64 bit drivers would be available. I then upgraded the RAM to maximum 4GB and purchased Window 7 Ulimate 64bit (clean install). First dissapointment to note is that only 3.25GB RAM was usable, but Windows 7 was noteably faster, easier to Navigate and network friendly. So good in fact I likewise upgraded my Sony VAIO laptop and clean installed the same Windows 7 version.

Well, as most in the community know the much needed Dell Windows 7 drivers for not so old PC's have not appeared. However, rather than wait patentiently I contacted Toshiba for a 64bit Windows 7 driver for the 350 Bluetooth module (etc) and they refused to help as the 'module' is not a "stock item" . It can only be aquired through DELL apparently. Likewise the Broadcom NetXtreme 57xx Gigabite Controller, and the ACPI\DELL8010 function controller(s). There is nowhere else to go but to trust and rely on DELL. In the emantime things got so bad I had to bypass the DELL bluetooth keyboard and mouse by buying a Microsoft USB Dual Reciever solution. The DELL keyboard and mouse are now gathering dust.

Today I telephoned DELL because none of my SERVICE requests have been answered. Using their 0844 338 1066 number and getting new reference 647532722 the end to the story is that I learned (contrary to all previous advice) is that DELL will not be providing any Windows 7 drivers for the XPS M2010. I asked who to complain to about this scandal, and advised to enter my comments onto this forum (why? - because DELL senior managers read it)!

I have to say thank you to all the senoir bosses who don't like to face cusotmers for wasting my time and money. I think it is very wrong of you to splash your webise about supporting Windows 7 sell lots of new machines at thye expense of ignoring your loyal customers who want to upgrade to an advanced more beneficial Microsoft OS system. My trust and confidence in DELL is seriously dented by misleading me into wasting money and time, and then dumping me when all I want is some Windows 7 drivers. If you truly support Windows 7 then give service to all your old customers as well as new!

I got an interesting problem which has been bugging me for a while, all help appreciated.

Whenever I increase the brightness of the LCD, say above 30-40%, something will start buzzing at the bottom right corner of the screen continuously. If I go higher with the brightness, above 60%, the LCD will turn black in a few seconds and I have to close the lid and reopen it and decrease the brightness immediatly so the thing does not keep happening.

I am not sure if it is a fuse problem or some faulty wiring. I wonder if anybody had a similar problem or got a solution to get me out of this misery, because soon enough, i will need reading glasses if this does not correct. Thank you.

I purchased a Dell Studio 15 (1557) about a month ago and as soon as I turned it on I noticed the entire bottom portion of the laptop (where the kybd and mousepad are) 'vibrated' - enough so that I called Tech Support for help. At first I thought it must be a bad fan, but after we ran through the Diagnostics and tried different fan settings, the vibration stayed. it wasnt until we put the HD to sleep temporarily that the vibration went away.

Tech Support said it was a bad drive so I had to send my laptop away for 2+ weeks (wow!). I eventually got my laptop back with a new HD installed - the exact same model - a Seagate Momentus 7200 rpm. Im not sure how the repair depot determined the laptop was fixed, because the vibration was still there. They also gave me my old HD back so I could grab any data - so I tried my old HD again to make sure there wasnt a mixup. Sure enough, both the Seagate drives Vibrated.

I did some googling and this seems to be a common issue with 7200 RPM HD's, specifically the Seagate. Besides running HOT, they also VIBRATE.

I called Tech Support again and they wouldn't believe me. They wanted me to send the laptop back to the repair depot so they could replace all the replaceable parts and find the issue - I said 'no way' - this laptop is brand new, only been used for 2 days, and Im not going to wait another 2-3 weeks to use it.They said, ok, we understand and we'll send you a brand new laptop (same model etc) so you wont be without a laptop. Unfortunately, they wouldnt let me pick a different HD (sigh) even though I was 110% sure it was the issue.

Sooooo, I went out and purchased a 5400 rpm WD Scorpio Blue. I installed it in the Laptop and BINGO!!! 'No Vibration'. None at all!

Im at a loss as to where to go from here. I've already forked over $1500 to Dell for a laptop that has a proven issue with the HD. Dell wont give me a different model of HD. I've spent another $100 for a 5400 RPM drive that fixes the issue.

I suppose I can sell the Seagate 7200 - but will it void my warranty?

Anyway, I thought I should post my experience so others could benefit from my frustration and troubleshooting.

"The service tag is not valid"

I purchased a Dell Studio 1555 laptop from Dell online in the UK on the 1st of July, and when registering for the Windows 7 Upgrade Program, it states that it is not eligible. I have checked on the Laptop, the box that it came in, and the BIOS, and this is indeed the correct service tag.

I am planning to load Windows 7 Pro (64 bit) on my Dell Studio XPS 1340, which came loaded with Vista (64 bit) a few months back.

When I try to find the drivers for Windows 7 (64 bit), I find there is no "System Utilities" section, which should contain Notebook System Software! This is found to be available for Vista.

So my question is, how do I find the Notebook System Software for Win 7? This seems to be the first in the driver installation order suggested by Dell.

Thanks.

Studio XPS 16 keeps waking up from sleep or hibernation

Hi,

I have a XPS 16 Studio with Vista 64 bit UK version.

But the laptop keeps waking up in the middle of the night !

I checked it all service logs of Windows etc. In the log an unknown resourse triggers the wake up so no solution via that way.

There are no services scheduled that would enable wake up or even is allowed to do a wake up.

I saw one suggestion on a Studio 17 is to do a hard reset (battery out, netpower off then 10-15 press start button) can this work?.

Has anybody also some other ideas?

I've got a new Inspiron 1545 which fails to boot. On startup I get the Dell screen, progress bad completes across the bottom, and then get a black screen with a flashing cursor at the top left.

I've removed and reseated the hard drive, and run the diagnostics from the menus - no errors are given.

This is the first startup of the machine, so I haven't had chance to make any restore CDs. To add to my conundrum, I'm travelling through Vietnam - not sure if there's any Dell support here.

Any ideas appreciated.

Ocassionally, when the machine has entered sleep, it fails to resume when I press the power button. The back-lit keyboard illuminates, the media keys illuminate, but the screen remains blank. No matter how long I wait or what keys I press, the machine will not resume.

I have to hold the power-button to turn the machine off.

Any suggestions? I'm running all the Win7 RTM drivers, which supersede the Vista 32-bit drivers that Dell's support site offers.

DELL LATITUDE D610

I have a Dell Latitude D610 which will not turn on. The 3 centre lights come on for a few seconds but then turn of again. Does anyone have any ideas about what I can do. It is out of warranty and I live in Melbourne. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated
