I just installed a new hard drive and installed Windows 7 on it. On the devices screen, the network controller and audio were banged out. I was able to download the network drivers and get that working but have had no luck successfully installing audio drivers.

When I got to the Dell drivers and downloads page, there is only one download for the SigmaTel audio. Tried installing and nothing happens. Went through the process of installing the drivers through the devices screen and it said it couldn't find a driver for the device. So I'm assuming the drivers I downloaded are not the right ones.

Anyone know where the latest drivers for the 8600 SigmaTel audio are located?

I've purchased a Dell Inspiron 1545 a few months ago and I have Windows 7. I've grown tired of the windows-installed drivers, so I figured I'd get the Soundblaster X-Fi software. Since I obviously had to reformat to install Windows 7 (didn't do upgrade,) I also lost the installation of the X-Fi MB software. Looking everywhere for the DVD, and I conclude that I didn't actually get one with my laptop, because I made extra sure that I kept all of the contents of the box handy.

More or less, I'm missing the DVD. I never got it in the box. The software was pre-installed, yes, but the move to Windows 7 deleted it. What do I do? I called Dell Support and they insisted that I download the software from the site, which is actually just an update package and requires the original DVD software. Still, I tried to install it anyway and it just crashes in the beginning stages of the setup, even if I run it with Vista/XP compatibility mode, running as Admin.

What should I do?

is it possible to upgrade the graphics card in my inspiron 1525 laptop?

can i upgrade the graphics card in my dell inspiron 1525 laptop to something more suited to games, right now their is a mobile intel(r) 965 express chipset family i only want to upgrade it to something that can handle games such as world of warcraft

Network Controller Driver - Dell Latitude E6400

Hello everyone - I tried all the drivers on Dell E6400 under xp and none would appy to this driver.

When docking down a E6400, after a
reboot the sound stops working. In device manager it shows up with the Yellow Exclamation mark
next to the IDT Codec. Going into Services it shows that the Audio service is
not started. When we undock the laptop and reboot, the sound works fine and the
control panel shows no warning next to the IDT Codec, and the audio service starts up fine. It also works fine if we dock
the laptop down to a basic E-Port replicator (http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/products/Docking_Station/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&sku=430-3113).
The laptop is loaded with XP SP3. Now
here is an interesting twist. We have the same model of laptop with Vista SP1 loaded
on it. Vista works fine on both docking stations. No sound problems or anything. We’ve tried uninstalling the
IDT device, installing new drivers, old drivers, disabling and re-enabling the
device. Nothing works to get the sound working on the XP laptop while docked down. Here is another
interesting twist. The audio output on both models of docking stations do not
work with either XP or vista. So we’re stuck with having people plugging in their
speakers into the headphone jack on the laptop instead of the docking station. Not
cool…

Anyone have any advice? Dell tech
support was not much help when we contacted them.

1. If it is installed, uninstall it...

2. Reload the CD but do not install, you must open the folder and wait for the CD to stop spinning

3. Right click on the set-up exe file

4. now click on Troubleshoot Compatibility

5. a new window will open with 2 options choose the second one

6. choose Windows Vista SP2

7. just continue through the steps

You will now have the SoundBlaster X-Fi MB software working. It has worked for me on my new Studio XPS 1645 laptop.

It does improve the sound quality

Studio 15 (1557) Subwoofer Not Working

Hi all,

I took delivery of my new dell studio 15 (1557) today and after booting up for the first time one of the first things I did was test out all the features including the "SRS premium sound". Now on the spec for this laptop it mentions a subwoofer for improved bass response - my laptop has absolutely ZERO bass response, it's all treble. The clarity is fine and it's fairly loud but there is absolutely no bass.

I've tried playing around with every setting I canfind to try and enable this subwoofer and I've tried reinstalling the IDT audio drivers. I suspect that it's a software issue.
In the IDT Audio control panel there are various SRS TrueBass option which don't make a bit of difference except that the sound clips the more I increase the bass enhancement effects.

Anyone got any ideas?

Thanks,
Rob

XT2 tabletPC buttons and touch screen didn't work

TabletPC buttons didn't work.
I didn't see specific options in BIOS.

Do you have already met this problem ? I don't see what other thing I could do for touchscreen and tabletpc buttons....I use all latest drivers available on DELL site..

One thing : when I click on calibrate in dell tablet settings, there is no effect.

If you have an idea, or know how to enable the features, any help would be really appreciated.
I have an issue regarding WINDOWS 7 HOME PREMIUM 64 BIT and editing and displaying the METADATA of MP3 files in windows explorer. Windows explorer does not allow me to edit the metadata (contributing artists, genre, year, etc) on some of my MP3 files. Editing is performed at the bottom of explorer or right clicking on the MP3 file and editing in the Details tab in Properties. Sometimes the metadata is referred to as the tags.

The error I get when I attempt to edit the metadata in windows explorer is:

Error 0x8007000D: The data is Invalid

It is a new computer and Windows 7 was pre-installed.

Apparently editing & displaying the metadata on MP3 files was an issue on WINDOWS 7 BETA version but was "solved" with a KB update by Microsoft at the beginning of 2009. Clearly, I am experiencing a similar if not the same issue, with WINDOWS 7 HOME PREMIUM 64 BIT.

To repeat the issue is:

I can only edit the metadata of SOME of my MP3 files NOT ALL of them in explorer in WINDOWS 7 HOME PREMIUM 64 BIT.

I am certain that the files were NOT corrupted before I transferred them over to my new computer from a XP system.

However, there may be a way round this using a MP3Tag editor - but I believe that it is a Microsoft issue & should be sorted by them.

Is there a recent KB update ??

i recently installed Windows 7 on my Studio 1535. Everything worked flawlessly out of the box. My issue appeared after installing the 92HD73C1 Vista Drivers. The reason for installing the Vista drivers was that with the onboard drivers I wasn't able to use my 5.1 Surround Speakers.

Ever since I'm hearing this popping/cracking sound whenever my audio card is not in use, i.e. not listening to music or anything else that is keeping the sound card busy. I suspect the drivers of causing this, because I cannot reproduce the issue with the out-of-the box generic driver, but then again no surround sound either.

My questions:

1. Is anyone else experiencing this kind of issues?

2. Will there be any Windows 7 drivers released for this sound card model? I checked the IDT Site for drivers, they said that the OEM Manufacturer should be my contact for newer drivers, in this case Dell.

3. If no drivers are planned, is there maybe some workaround for this problem?

Whenever the wi-fi is enabled, my speakers emit a low 'burr-burr' every minute or so. This immediately ceases if I turn off the wi-fi.

I right now have 1 GB RAM installed.

I was looking to upgrade my RAM and tried to find out the maximum I can fit in. When I go to the dell support website and ask it to perform a scan of my hardware it returns Intel 945 Express Chipset Family, but does not tell me exactly which chipset it is, 945GM or GME or GMS etc.

Now, from the scan page, I ask it to use the hardware config found to look for upgrades, it immediately goes to a page saying

"At this time, we can only narrow your system down to one of the systems listed below. Please select your system from this list. We apologize for the inconvenience"

It mentions E1505 and 6400, I click on them and the maximum RAM I am "allowed" to buy is 2GB.

(Something rather strange because at least I should be allowed to buy whatever I want)

Which probably is because my system's chipset and processor were reconfigured from the factor standard model of E1505 which I think was a T2500.

Anyhow, I tried using the intel chipset identification and again got the the same result in the identification scan, with only the 945 family mentioned.

I finally ripped open laptop, gave it a maintenance cleanup and also looked for the identification mark.

I found a code 0682945GM. But on the next line on the chip it said SL8Z2. Now I am confused if I am supposed to read the two together.

Because if I do, the chipset can also be GMS.

Can anyone shed some light on this.

I want to be perfectly sure that I can use 4GB Ram before buying it.

Thanks

Aditya

Dell Customer service Chat line

I bought this Studio 1555 March of 2009, had it exchanged twice problems with Vista OS.
I have a software based "Creative Sound Blaster Audigy Advanced MB" also known as "Integrated Sound Blaster Audigy HD Software Edition" running on my system.

It is working fine with 32-bit Vista and I have no problems.

I was planning to upgrade to 32-bit Windows 7 and I tested it on my M1530. Everything worked fine except this "Creative Sound Blaster Audigy Advanced MB". It installs fine but the Creative Audio Center does not run and tells me it can not find any supported device. I have tried installing it in Vista compatibility mode too.

Before you ask, I have my sound card drivers installed and sound card is working fine. I have Sigmatel hardware.

I am asking, is there an update or a patch available that I can use to make "Creative Sound Blaster Audigy Advanced MB" work in 32-bit Windows 7?

Is Dell planning to release an update for this?

Any solution for my problem?

p.s. "Creative Sound Blaster Audigy Advanced MB" is a software based solution and not my sound card drivers. Creative does not provide free updates for this on their website. It is for Dell to provide the update to their customers.

We have an old Dell charger. It's the same in every way except that the output of the broken charger is 4.62 amps and the old one is 3.34A.

Sure, I could just plug it in and see what happens. I'm here because there is a little fear that doing that could do some kind of damage. I tried searching old questions (Why did I only find posts from 1999 to 2004?) and now I think it's more likely that the computer will just refuse to recognize the old charger.

So do I plug in the old charger? Bad idea?

Hi!

I recent install
Windows 7 on my laptop (Inspiron 1420 T8300 2gb nvidia 8400 sigmatel).

At first everything
was all right until I tried to make a call using Skype. I start making a call
and i can hear the tone but when the call begin, it´s like the sound card disconnect
and I can´t hear nothing until y close Skype. It happen whit windows live messenger
so it´s not a problem of Skype. Of course I re install the sound drivers but
the problem still exist.

As I said, there is
another problem whit Bluetooth. It´s not working at all, and when i try to re install
drivers the system said that them are already installed, and ask me to
uninstall them first, but i don´t know how

I returned 2 Latitude 14z laptops to Best Buy because of this error. On the third laptop, I noticed that Failsafe seemed to write to Bios during install. Sure enough, after that install, I got the error when I ran the Dell Diagnostics. I concluded that the Diagnostic program is not set up to recognize Failsafe. I hope that is all it is. I don't want to have to take the 3rd laptop back to Best Buy.

the right of the touchpad on my new SXPS 16. Has anyone with a SXPS 16
noticed this rattle? The rattle is especially bad when I'm talking to
people on skype; I'm assuming the midrange frequencies are causing the
laptop to rattle. I tried using the equalizer in the audio settings but
I can't get rid of the rattle. I'd appreciate it if anyone could tell
me how to fix this problem or at least improve it. Also, I don't know
if this has been mentioned before, but the sound on my SXPS 16 seems to
be off center due to the odd placement of the subwoofer. Is there any
simple way to make the audio sound more centered?

Studio 1737 DPC Latency

Hello! My Studio 1737 is showing the DPC Latency problems described as in this thread: http://en.community.dell.com/forums/p/19245700/19411542.aspx

Symptoms include periodic crackle and popping sounds during audio playback. The problem is most severe with wireless broadband enabled and disabling it greatly helps but does not completely solve the problem.

Research on the web shows this is a fairly widespread problem known to affect Studio laptops, and that BIOS upgrades have resolved the problem for other computers including Dell's XPS line.

So I'm hoping this will be fixed soon. Has anyone been able to get information from Dell support about whether this will be fixed with a BIOS update for the 1737?

Cheers,

It's as if the companies selling them don't test them fully at all. I don't make random accusations, I speak purely from first-hand, personal experience.

About two months ago I bought myself the 13" Macbook Aluminum. I never liked the Mac OS much, so I installed Vista Home Premium using Boot Camp. First thing I noticed was, when I played any music, videos, or games, the audio would at regular intervals play in a slow-motion manner, and distinct popping noises can be heard in the background. So I did some research and found out that it was due to the Broadcom Wireless N network card's driver having some compatibility issues. After updating the driver, the problem was solved. But I wasn't happy with the way the trackpad worked in Vista, so I returned the Macbook.

Now two months later, here I am with this very sexy Studio XPS laptop. I have to admit, the quality of these Dell computers (at least aesthetically) has dramatically improved. I can walk around with this thing in my hands with as much confidence as if I were to walk around with the sleek and sexy Macbook Aluminum. But as I turned on my Studio XPS, and I'm talking within the first hour of receiving this laptop, I came across two major problems.

1) My optical drive was definitely defective. It makes INSANELY loud grinding noises when any disk is put in, and at times the disk would stop spinning completely during an installation, and the installation would either pause or abort.

2) To my surprise, really, to my surprise, this Dell has the same problem my Macbook Alunimum had when running in Vista. The audio makes popping noises, and at regular intervals it would play in a slow-motion manner. So once again I Googled around and wanted to look for some answers, but nothing useful came up. So I called Dell Technical Support, and the lady was extremely patient and professional, but she wasn't able to solve the problem for me. So here I am, with a $2000 investment that I am not completely satisfied with.

Dell is sending me a box within the next few days so I can send this Studio XPS back for repairs. For some reason I really doubt the audio problem will be taken care of after it comes back to me. The optical drive should be easy, if they decide to swap a new (functional) one for me.

If anyone has the same audio problem that I am experiencing, and has found a way to take care of the problem without such compromises as turning off WiFi, please feel free to comment and share.

And lastly, on a side note, if anybody cares, I was extremely disappointed in the time it took for me to get this laptop from Dell. I initially placed my order on January 19, 2009. I received the laptop on February 20, 2009. It took an entire month for the laptop to finally come, and now I'm looking at another 20 days or so for this thing to go through shipping and repairs. Seriously thinking about getting a refund on this Dell and going for something else now.

Re-Install Windows Vista Cannot acsess internet.

I have recently re-installed vista onto my inspiron 1525 and since then i haven't been able to acsess the internet with it.
