I than found that my Sound Forge Pro 10.0 program could no longer record "what I was hearing." After a fair amount of investigating in various forums, I found out that the problem was in the Dell oem version of the X-Fi XtremeMusic sound card which came with my machine. After replacing my oem card with a retail X-Fi Titanium Fatality, everything works fine.

However, the connector that plugged into the top of my old sound card is now dangling inside my machine. Presumeably something isn't working, but what? The built-in diskette and two cd/dvd drives still work, and the two front USB ports still work, although I have not checked out the front Firewire port. The system also has a "19 in 1 USB Media Card Reader", which I have never used. Finally, perhaps the internal speaker no longer works? Big deal!

Can anyone help me figure out what the function of the now unused cable is?

Mic Prob: XPS 420 downgraded to XP

I have downgraded my XPS 420 to XP and everything seems to work perfectly fine.

Anyone have a solution to this?

I have a Logitech Headset that connects to the front of my desktop where it has a headphone and mic jack to insert it into.
Had windows XP originally. Did a complete clean wipe Windows 7 64 bit install. Tried to upgrade Bios - can't get it to work in any shape or form - states "unsupported system" and won't load it.

Bios question was here - no solution as of yet:

http://en.community.dell.com/forums/t/19304529.aspx

Bottom line, tried the Creative Labs newest driver - no luck. Tried the Daniels "unofficial" driver - no luck.

It stems from the system doesn't recognize the card at all to begin with. I think it will work because during all these itterations, it did show it as "recognized" and you could see the volume bar illuminate when you clicked to change the volume level - but no sound.

But I haven't gotten that far since then - uninstalled all sound drivers again, started over, same issues.

Any ideas?

You can't even hear anything, voices, background music, etc.

I've deleted and removed all the drivers and software.
None of the documents I can find online identify the line-out jack
as anything other than 'line-out'. This could be a plain
stereo-mini-jack or it could be some kind of fancy versa-jack, I need
to know.

I would be very surprised if there was no way to output
digital audio from this box (apart from HDMI), but it's the kind of
thing I need to verify before I buy.

Btw, I
contacted Dell chat support person and asked this question. After some
back and forth I was told that he "thought it was digital" but that
there was no way for him to know absolutely and there was nothing he
could tell me about how to find out.

"I don't know" is
acceptable. "I have no way to find out" is plain fail. I went from

The repair technician sent by Dell technical support did not find a corresponding connector on the motherboard. He did leave me the speaker. Can anybody provide me with the pin layout of the 5-pin connector on this speaker (part number D9899, only 4 pins connected)? According to the labels on the PCB the 4 wires are: +5V power in (P5V_IN), speaker detection (SPK_DET), ground (GND) and mono audio (AUD_MONO).

The pin layout of the motherboard connectors could also come in handy, especially for the front panel audio connector. This system has no documentation whatsoever, even technical support is without a clue (they had to ask me to check the part number of a defective case cooling fan because they have no information on this system).

Appologies if there is already a thread for this, but I checked and couldn't see one.

I have recently bought a Dell Ultrasharp U2410

http://www.dell.com/us/en/dfo/peripherals/monitor-dell-u2410/pd.aspx?refid=monitor-dell-u2410&s=dfo

and a Dell Soundbar speaker Ax510.

http://search.dell.co.uk/1/2/2010-dell-ax510-soundbar-speaker-for-ultrasharp-and-other-monitors-with-a-power-pass-through-connector.html

How do i connect my Xbox 360 elite so audio plays through the sound bar please?

I am using the HDMI connection but have not found a way to connect audio.

There is probably a very simple way to do it involving me buying a cable or two but I'm not sure.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks in advance

I recently had a power problem at my house and house voltage was dropping to as low as 94 volts AC at times.

power problem has been fixed now I have this issue with my dimension 8400. If I boot normally the pc seems to have completely booted as soon as I try to open any thing, from the start menu or quick launch I hear an internal beep from the CPU and it freezes now sometimes the usb mouse freezes too and sometimes it does not. I am able to start in safe mode & sahe w/ networking I did try this and then restarting normal but same problem in any mode but safe. also a month ago long before this happened I di replace the power supply and motherboard battery ( so I doubt that is the culprit) but pc was working fine till the AC power issue. My immediate response is to replace power supply. I have tested the power supply and all output voltages are proper. I thank all in advance for your ideas.

I have installed the latest drivers for both XPS 13 64bit running Vista 64 home premium and Mackie interface. Updated to lastest BIOS. In short all updates are up to date.

For some reason I do not see where one enables or disables the firewire in the BIOS because it does not show. The Device Manager says both 1394 ports are "working properly" (Stock Ricoh 1394 and Apiotek Express card TI CHipset with two firewire 400 and one USB slot).

Back to the interface - It appears under Audio, Video and Game Controllers with an exclamation point in a yellow triangle "This device cannot start. (Code 10)"

It seems to me that my problem is the IDT High Definition Audio Codec
is not recognizing the firewire port as an audio input. Nor the
firewire on express card with the "latest TI Chipset".

There is just no communication between laptop and interface as with other plug and play devices.

How do I make this work. Anybody?

I purchased another HD so I can install Windows 7 on it so I don't have to lose any of my stuff on the original HD and the price was just right.

I had no problem installing Windows 7, have most of my stuff brought over. The 4 individual speakers (2 front and 2 back) are working however there is no sound coming out of the 5th (6th) speaker that you attach to the monitor and no sound comping out of the subwoofer. the sound on the subwoofer is turned completely up, the cables are in the correct jacks, sound in windows 7 is turned completely up and nothing comes out of speaker 5 (6) and subwoofer.

I take the HD out of the system that has Win7 on it and connect the originally HD with XP on it and the sound works fine.

Since my system is 4 years old and just out of Warranty (one month) i can not call Dell up for support on this.

Has anyone else have this problem.
