The card works, but I can't seem to configure the screen resolution higher than 640x480 with 4 colors. I have tried setting the controller as the only video controller (ie disable the integrated Intel video controller), setting it to be the primary and/or secondary with two active controllers, but nothing seems to work. At one point after reinstalling multiple times I did get the opportunity to change the resolution and color quality but got some odd message about not being authorized to make the change (this happended only once).

My system: Dell Dimension 2350, 512MB memory (just upgraded from 256MB), running XP Pro. The proc is Intel Pentium 2.4GHz processor.

THE OTHER ODD symptom is that I can not get the Nvidia apps to run, either NVIDIA Control Panel, or NVIDIA nView Desktop Manager. I select from the control panel and nothing happens. I can hear my hard drive seeking for a bit after I select, but they don't start, no errors. I have hooked monitors to both video adapters to make sure the app isn't starting on the other monitor, but nothing happens.

Any info would be greatly appreciated, I am getting a bit frustrated...

Task Manager

I am having trouble with my task manager. It only shows me the following information:

I have received everything but the computer, all is on my Dell credit account. My computer has been on "hold" since then.
The order was paid for by a Dell Preferred Account that was approved at the time the order was placed -- to take advantage of the zero interest offer.

The mouse & headset ordered at the same time were received within a couple of weeks - but nothing on the computer,. I logged into our account and the status for the computer had changed from "processing' to 'changed' -- and a 2nd Order number had been issued for a second laptop. I immediately called the 800-number and spoke with a gentleman that was (1) very difficult to understand and (2) was not very helpful. What I believe he was telling me was that parts were delayed and the original ordered was canceled and a new order had to be setup...he couldn't explain to me why this had to be done, but he did tell me that the new order would be received on or before December 3rd (and this was repeated at least 3 times!).

I continued to check the status on-line regularly with no change in the status on the 2nd order -- it never changed to 'processing' until yesterday (Nov 21) when I logged in the status on the 2nd order now shows 'CANCELED' ! I again called and this time was told that the 2nd order was canceled because payment had not been received! I asked to speak with a manager -- who reiterated that the original order was canceled due to a delay in parts, and the 2nd order was canceled because payment was not received -- but she could not explain why the payment, which was approved on the original order had not been transferred to the 2nd order, since it was an internal "switch".. I was told to get this problem taken care of I would be transferred to the Order department.

The situation got worse when the woman in the Order department was (1) RUDE and (2) Unsympathetic to my problem. She stated there was nothing they could do until the Credit Department was contacted and we updated our personal information! Extremely strange since the original account had been opened less than a month before... and the approval went through without problems on the original order. She could not explain why the original approval had not been transferred to the 2nd order since it was an internal decision to cancel the original order due to delay in parts. She continued to tell me that "to get the order placed again, you have to get your credit updated." and she 'would not be able to tell me when the order would be sent until I fixed the problem."! She then said she would transfer me to the Credit Department -- only to get a recording that stated the Credit Department was CLOSED -- please call back during normal business hours (which I determined was Mon - Fri by going back to the website). I can only assume she knew this when transferring me but didn't have the Customer Service skills to realize the proper way to handle this type of customer situation would have been to tell me they were not available until Monday and offer to make sure they were given my name and number to be contacted.

I will be contacting the Credit Department on Monday November 23 -- but I am not sure at this point if it will be to resolve the problem created INTERNALLY or to cancel the account and order all together. That decision will be determined when someone at Dell can contact me (or my husband) and offer a resolution to this problem that will guarantee my son will get his computer while he is home on leave from December 18 - 31st!

I did not know where to post this because apparently this is a Forum bug with my profile.

Whenever I am browsing the posts and following a long thread, I can not go back to the main Forum page, or go back at all to any page when I hit "back arrow" in my browser. It does not hold a "history" in the "back blue arrow" in my IE 8, mind you, this only happens when I am logged in. If I am not signed in I can go back and forward without any problems

This has been happening quite a while now. I thought It was my sys, but since I reinstalled OS (XP Pro) late October, and it is still doing it. It can not be my comp. That is why I have not been more active lately, it is a pain to go back to Forum and look for the last post that I read to go to the next post or page and so for. I am here asking for help. This has to be some malfunction with my profile. Is any body else seeing this when perusing the Forum?

Thank you before hand.

Laptop computer

I cannot open "internet options" When I try it merely flashes on and off. Can somebody t ell me how to fix this. Thanks

NOKIA 5800 Xpressmusic

Hi,

I ordered an Inspiron 15, and when I was customizing it, I was given the choice of getting either a 6-cell battery or a 9-cell battery. Since I don't plan on having it unplugged very often, I just went with the 6-cell battery. Then I placed my order. In the morning, I read my e-mail confirmation from Dell. It said my computer is being built with a 4-cell battery. I was never given the choice of having a 4-cell battery, and I paid to have a 6-cell battery installed. So first, I sent an e-mail through Dell's website. First I got an automated e-mail back that didn't help at all. It said "if this didn't help, reply to this e-mail and we'll respond in 24 hours." So I did reply. That was two days ago, and I still got no response. So I called customer support. They said there's nothing they could do since my laptop is in production. It's just a battery! It's not like you have to install a new processor. Heck, mail me the battery and I'll put it in myself.

So I'm posting here out of frustration mostly, but is there anything else I can do other than wait two weeks to get my computer, then ship it back and say that the order is wrong? Half of me feels like it was just an honest mistake on Dell's part, but half of me feels like I just got scammed and I'm paying for more than what I'm getting. Any advice out there?

CD ROM/DVD Problem

Hello,

Sorry for posting here, I can't find a place to post for tech problems. So considering I'm new to this forum, I decided to post here. Besides, I could have gone directly to tech support but I hear they're no help sometimes. So I'm hoping a tech person reads these posts.

The blue screen sometimes pops up at the startup before the desktop shows, or just after, or when I open a video file from the hard drive, or openning a video file from another computer thru the network, or when I start yahoo messanger or access computer manager.

I'm new to windows debugger app. What do I do next?

Alex

I used windows debugging to figure things out but it don't make sense. No definite answers:

UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP_M (1000007f)
This means a trap occurred in kernel mode, and it's a trap of a kind
that the kernel isn't allowed to have/catch (bound trap) or that
is always instant death (double fault). The first number in the
bugcheck params is the number of the trap (8 = double fault, etc)
Consult an Intel x86 family manual to learn more about what these
traps are. Here is a *portion* of those codes:
If kv shows a taskGate
use .tss on the part before the colon, then kv.
Else if kv shows a trapframe
        use .trap on that value
Else
.trap on the appropriate frame will show where the trap was taken
(on x86, this will be the ebp that goes with the procedure KiTrap)
Endif
kb will then show the corrected stack.
Arguments:
Arg1: 00000008, EXCEPTION_DOUBLE_FAULT
Arg2: 80042000
Arg3: 00000000
Arg4: 00000000

This
laptop has a "Broadcom NetXtreme 57xx Gigabit Controller" as a LAN
interface. The OS installation (an upgrade to Home Premium from XP)
went smooth. I had a strange feeling that the Internet is crawling so I
made few tests comparing the throughput with other computers that I
have on my home network. A simple download tests approved that the
network throughput from the LAN interface is much slower (I'm talking
about factor of 2 to 4, the throughput jitters between 50 to 80 percent) then what I'm used to and comparing to other
computers on my home network that have a stable max network performance.
I also tried the same tests, but this time
I was connected through the Wireless interface on my laptop and surprisingly the
bandwidth went back to the levels I'm used to, and was stable on the maximum. I think this is focusing
the problem to the compatibility of the "Broadcom NetExtreme 57xx
Gigabit Controller" with Widows 7.
I tried to update/reinstall the LAN device driver - Didn't help.

Would be glad to be assisted.
Thanks, Avi

New Avatar not working

I have just joined the forum and I have uploaded a photo as my avatar. The photo uploaded and displays in Edit My Profile but when I click on Enable Avatar YES and Save the photo does not display in my Public Profile. When I go back into Edit My Profile the Enable Avatar is set to NO. I have tried several times to set it to yes with no positive results.

Ordered a standard offer of a VOSTRO. Order placed on 11-10-09. NEVER received even a email stating the purchase was complete. NEVER received an email with estimated delivery date. Login at Dell website and see purchase is complete delivery date estimate to be 11-20-09. Now 10 days for an off the shelf offer is a little long in my eyes. Then looked a couple of days later and estimated delivery date moved out to the 30th of November. Well I think if I am waiting 10 days what the heck another 10 no big deal. HA.... So I send an email to customer support and get a reply three days later stating the order is still due to be delivered on the 30th. I had even mentioned in my email to support about the possibility of canceling the order and when they replied they did not even comment on that. So..... Here I am thinking what the hell another 10 days makes might as well go for it. Well a day after I received the response from the "Support" department I take a look at my delivery date and now it says the 7th of December....My god how long does it take to make a Laptop.....

Now I have not received 1 email from them in regards to everything from the order to all the delays. This is RIDICULOUS... I have been a long time customer of Dell and have to say this is the worst experience I have ever had with this company. Now my question is what to do??? I refuse to sit on hold for hours on end or to deal with an incompetent support tech. Has anyone got any ideas how to handle this easier than sitting on the phone speaking to an out of country support department?

I have to say this experience is absolutely nuts. I will never buy another DELL and I can assure you I will let everyone I know about this experience.

Anyone got any ideas??

May I ask another *stupid* question?

What do the 5 stars mean?
I have only one reason to come here, to look for answers to troubles with Dell switches. I can manage to get to the networking forum, which in and of itself is far too hard. But how do I search just that forum? I see there is a big huge search input at the top right, which searches all of the community.

Any way to search just a subset of the forums?

If this is not possible, someone, new forums were brought online that take us back in time a decade.

Basically my problem is that I can't get My Dell Downloads to register my system so that I can download my factory installed software (I plan to do a clean install of Windows 7). I checked the box that says "I agree to user terms" and click register, then a window pops up and I clicked "allow." But then nothing happens and it stays on that page. Does anyone know how I can solve this problem? Moderators if this isn't the right section for this topic please move this thread to the right place.
So I bought an XPS M1330 laptop August 2008! I've had nothing but problems with it since the day I bought it and have been very very disappointed. I'm a student and use my computer basically for internet access, and homework. Approximately 5 months after buying my laptop my hardrive crashed and they replaced my hard drive under warranty. Now I'm out of warranty and still have many issues with my operating system Windows Vista. My computer constantly crashes and I get the blue screen error 6-7 times a week. I feel that I have wasted my money and am not happy what-so-ever! I'm not into downloading music and videos but my computer has made me very disappointed in Dell. I'm looking for an email address or phone number for an actuall dell representative that matters. Somebody that can help me be happy without wanting to charge me and arm and a leg.

At this point if somebody was to ask me about dell I would not recomend Dell. This is not how I want it to be but unfortunately when I call customer support I get transfered and transfered or they want me to pay them money to ask a question and sometimes I "accidently" get hung up on.

I'm very disappointed that my first time owning a computer has been nothing but a negative experience and I've only owned one for 1.4 years! Sad to say, my computer has become more of a hassle then it has become a benefit to my studies.

Does anybody know if there is anybody out there that cares about their consumers, and genuinely wants to help? If so can I get a phone number or email address.

New Computer?

Does anyone have the Dell Studio 540 desktop? If so, do you like it, does it perform well?

I called the 24/7 phone line for order tracking, it said the order was "shipped" on Dec. 18..... Which is like 3 weeks from now. So why is it saying its shipped on a future date? That doesnt make any sense. Is it really shipped out or not? im confused :(

However, if I should ever receive it, I want to put Windows 7 on it. I have been running Win7 beta on my new Inspiron 13 since day 1, and it rocks. I hear it runs fine on 512K RAM, and I would like to try that out.

I am curious whether anyone has done this and how you did it. I have a Win7 DVD and I also have access to an OS image, or I could download the Enterprise installation from work, but I would have to join to the domain and hardwire to the corpnet and I'm not sure how possible this will be. Naturally the mini does not have an optical drive. I have an external DVD drive, but I don't think I can boot to it. I have a 4 gig flash drive. I think that might be the way to go.

Anyway I am curious how other people have done this if they have. I want to immediately wipe the whole thing (with all the Dell bloatware and XP) and install Win7 clean. But I suppose I could also upgrade and uninstall the Dell stuff by hand.

Thanks,

Hi,

Re: Customer Resolution Form Submission MISSING ITEM (KMM103912195I57L0KM)

While I appreciate your efforts. I still have NOT been able to obtain a complete copy of what I ordered from Dell last August. WHAT DID I ORDER?

I have tried your "automated" site (www.dell.com/invoices) repeatedly and have been unable to get a response. I am attaching images of two of the responses. These are NOT the only two time times that I tried -- just two of the times that I captured the results. The blank invoice screen is what normally occurs. I have waited long, long times for something else to show up, but that is all that is coming.

The invoice that you did provided was helpful. It does show that I made an error when I ordered the new Dell computer. I thought that I was ordering Corel's Paint Shop Pro. I do have Jasc's Paint Shop Pro and thought that perhaps Corel had made some improvements after they bought out Jasc.

Instead, I ordered Corel's Paint Shop Pro Photo X2 as your invoice copy shows. My error and my mistake, so I guess that I am stuck with it.

I had attempted to passively cancel my order of the USB Micro Drive by not responding on the last e-mail that you sent indicating that the order would be cancelled if I DID NOT respond by mid-night that day. I DID NOT respond, but of course the item later arrived anyway. I wish that I had now done the same for all the e-mails (printer and USB Micro Drive) that you sent threatening cancellation -- even those that I opened after those mid-night deadlines.

OK, I am stuck with all those thing that I feel really bad about ordering. The printer isn't good. I tried to OCR with it and gave up and just typed the document that I was trying to copy. I have never used the USB thing and don't know how and have no instructions on how to use it or what to use it for. And, of course, now I get to Corel's Paint Shop Pro Photo X2.

I have tried to install it, but the install program keeps asking for a serial number. You provided a telephone number for Corel (952) 930-9171, I guess, but the that number is "not in service." I guess that program is useless.

I must say that I am totally disappointed with Dell's service, or lack thereof. This is the third computer that I have ordered from Dell and it will be the last. The service has been rotten. I don't speak Indian and have a hard job understanding what those that I contact on phone are trying to tell me. The computer came "speaking" only French, another lanuage that I don't understand. And there were other problems that I have now forgotten the details about.

Good-bye Dell,

it is taking to get order from DELL so here is my story as well. I do
not want to repeat previous stories except to say I have been waiting 5
weeks now for a "Promise Pink" laptop for my wife and am now on my
first of what I fear is many delays on a 42" Panasonic TV we ordered
from DELL as well.

I have battled with the customer service
issues (and you are all correct that they don't care), spoken with two
people who were supposed to be managers, and even been verbally
"promised" twice now by these managers that my order would not be
delayed again. As an IT Manager for a medium sized business it is my
call as to which IT hardware we use and for the past 12 years it has
been DELL products only with a high degree of success with their
products and a very low failure rate. During all of this time we have
spent many, many thousands of dollars with DELL and I have done the
same on a personal level with laptops, a Mini 9, monitors, etc. So
simply this. 5 + weeks on a laptop, almost 2 weeks on a TV that doesn't
even have to be manufactured by DELL is poor at best.

Beginning
with January 2010 when we put in our new hardware refresh for the
Windows 7 upgrades (we are still on XP only) I will be recommending we
review other products from HP, Gateway, etc. For years I have
recommended DELL to both family and friends and I would love to see the
amount of money I have pushed into the pipeline through my
recommendations alone and now here we sit. It's 2009 DELL and there is
no logical reason for it to take this long to build a laptop and to
ship a TV. I'm tired of hearing the "supply chain" excuses. If you
don't have the product or the parts to build it, then don't sell it.
Pretty simple if you ask me. Don't run sales on items you can't even
come close to shipping in a reasonable time frame. The most
unbelievable part of it all is that my inbox each day keeps getting
sales messages from DELL about the great deals they have on all types
of various items and the thing they push the hardest is laptops.

I'm
disappointed on a professional and personal level with the complete
disregard for taking care of your loyal customers and this isn't just
about me. It's for all of the many, many others that have posted on
here with their many thousands of hard earned dollars wasted and tied
up with DELL.

Since I'm stubborn I will wait both of these orders
out and my last post here will be to inform everyone and DELL of how
long it actually took to get my items.

Avatar

I have just joined the forum and I have uploaded a photo as my avatar. The photo uploaded and displays in Edit My Profile but when I click on Enable Avatar YES and Save the photo does not display in my Public Profile. When I go back into Edit My Profile the Enable Avatar is set to NO. I have tried several times to set it to yes with no positive results.

The 3-year service history of more than 30,000 laptops has been pored over, analyzed, and reduced to gorgeous comparative charts

In other words, you get what you pay for -- shocking, right?

U can check out where the top 2 manufacturers of the world are placed in terms of reliability.......(HP & Acer)

ASUS and Toshiba share the winners' spoils, while HP languishes in the ignominious last place, with more than a quarter of all laptops expected to suffer a hardware fault of some kind within three years.

All seems to function well but tried to print to my Dell 720 Inkjet and there was no record on the laptop of the printer.

So I assume I've got to re-install drivers and this has presented me with the following issues:

1. Drivers from Dell website - having no joy here. Seems that you've got to download a download manager first but I can't seem to get this to work.

2. Obtaining drivers from web - they all indicate the driver download is free but invariably they want me to purchase some download software which I don't want to.

By the way, Dell want to charge me £39.99 to install printer drivers when this problem has arisen out of their advice to reinstall op system - so not overly impressed with Dell service at the minute as it was their advice that caused the problem, I'm re-installing their printer (out of warranty they inform) and the price they want to charge I could purchase a new printer.

Sorry for rant, your advice would be appreciated.

Regards,
