I do not know of any manufacturer that will provide software support for free beyond a minimal window.

Regarding the person who bought from Best Buy... Just an idea... Have you transferred ownership from Best Buy to yourself? If not, that explains the incorrect anme and phone number... Just a possibility....

Also, there is an Unresolved Issues link at the bottom of this page to escalate your questions / concerns. If you haven't tried it, do so.

And, if you bought it at Best Buy, you should have the option of having it repaired by the Geek Squad through your local store.

Good luck to both of you.

Re: Corporate Office Address/Contact

File a complaint at www.bbb.org to get some sort of response. Telephone, online chat, email, and this forum are just a waste of your time.

I spent 3 hours on the phone with Dell today with an issue on a brand new Vostros 1520 laptop... long story short, I just received a shipping label from them to return the unit. Looks like Dell prefers to loose us as a loyal customer rather than even try to help resolve a problem. They wanted to charge me before they would discuss a fundamental issue with the Operating System that they sold me with the system. Seemed really odd that they didn't even bother to say "use system restore" or "reload your computer with the provided CDs." Little wonder why they moved from the number 1 slot to now the number three slot in the last two years. And they missed their quarterly earning sending the stock down 7% after the closing bell today. Good job Dell.

that will yield someone from dell contacting you how might help with your issue.

there are dell peronel (not other users like outselves) here that try to contact you here via private messages but i have found them to only waste your time and one inparticular that actually said some quite offensive and inappropiate things to me in the private mesages. she remains nameless as if i state her name they delete my message.

this board is not effective place to express an honest exchange of ideas or experiances as they monitor posts and delete them per the terms of service that we all have to agree to to be here. unfortuntely they do not explicity state their policy regarding what is aceptable and what is unaceptable to post here and simply delete things without explaination stating that their terms of service effectively states that they can do whatever they want... so the bbb.org is more effective as the number of complaints, and the number of resolved complaints are published there and so they seem to be motivated to try to keep their ratio low as anyone cal read it.

good luck.

Re: Corporate Office Address/Contact

Emily,

BLESS you for sharing that information! I only wish I had read your post before placing my order for a replacement hard drive. I just joined the community and posted about my experience, although I think I put it in the wrong slot. The "rep" (and I use that term very loosely) ordered the wrong hard drive for me, even after I gave him the service tag # and name and model number. I have spent hours trying to get them to pick up the incorrect one and refund my money and I am still waiting.Last night I was told that I could either find a UPS store to take this return to drop it off OR I could PAY another $10 for UPS to come and pick it up. FOR THEIR ERROR!!!

My next step is to write Mr Dell and tell him what HELL his "customer support" team dishes out to all of us and then like you, tell him that after owning 2 Dells I will never again purchase this brand. What amazes me is how many times in this country companies that were BUILT on the backs of the little people totally ignore us and could care less about their customer service. I worked in customer service for 7 years for a cable company and trust me, if a customer had an issue, we were given 48 hrs TOTAL to get the problem resolved with the last act being a phone call placed by ME back to the customer to make sure all was satisfactory. In the world today, the only thing that differentiates one company from another IS their customer service. Unfortunately DELL has not learned this lesson.

I hope you get your problem resolved and thanks again for sharing this information.

Jodyrose

PS. I think we should take this discussion to their Twitter, Facebook and LInkedIn profile, maybe someone in the USA might be listening there and be willing to do what it takes to resolve the problems?

Re: Corporate Office Address/Contact

Hi There my Name is Emily I am 17 years old, for Christmas my grandmother bought me a lap top (inspron 1525) at around $950. Ordered on October 2008, I didnt get the computer from my grandmother untill Christmas day. So I personally have not had the computer a full year. I loved the computer when I first got it what teen wouldn't. about 6 months into having it all the problems hit. I went on vactions and my screen got cracked well for a fee of $250 I had it replaced, No big deal that was pretty much my fault. Well after 10-12 Business Days my computer returned here is were all the problems began When I got the computer back and turned on I noticed that my sound drivers had been deleted as well as my web cam software, my wireless card software (meaning I had no internet), my DVD player software/Burner, I had also paid $50 for a virus protection and that was gone as well along with all my personal things, photoshop elements which runs from $90-$170. So what did I do I called up dell and in total hours I have spent 12+ hours on the phone with someone I couldnt understand what they were saying on top of wasting my time. So they sent me a box and within 10-12 business days once again I would have my computer back, so I received it and when I got it back it worked fine for one day perfectly and the next day I went to log in and it flashed my desktop for like 5 seconds and then would go completely black and not come back on, I then restarted it several times and the same thing. So I called DELL and the stupid reps asked me a hundred stupid questions asking if the screen was completely black and had I tried restarting it and then gonnna tell me to calm down when I cant understand her. well got my computer fixed over the phone then the very next day i powered off my computer and when I went to turn it back on it just wouldnt come on, I called dell yet again and two hours later, a bunch of non sucsessful power shooting steps, my anger being through the roof the rep decided it would be best if they sent me a box to send my computer back yet again. today I called dell to see where my computer was and when it would be back and exactly what was wrong with it. it will be here in 3 days ish. The guy informed me that my warrenty is about to run out and that I should pay $220 to renew my warrenty, after he insulted me and argued with me for about 10 minutes he finally transferred my call. Ok but why would I pay another $220 for a warrenty when they havent fixed my computer if the first place so pay $220 to get the run around some more I dont think so! I will NEVER buy another dell and will advise everyone I know to not buy a dell as well. I may be just one person but I see all of the people in below comments that are also having problems that DELL refuses to fix. I am gonna take this to every news station News paper anything and everything I can do I will do... so below is the corporate number if you guys have any other ideas or imput that may be able to help let me know! thanks!

this forum has filters that will automatically mask words that it 'thinks' are offensive, and it has human monitors that selectively enforce their tos rules (removing system tag numbers, personal email address, and entire posts that they don't like)*. i say selectively becuase they have repeatedly demonstrated that they do not even handedly remove posts based on the general reasons outlined in their tos, they just remove the ones that personally offened them, and not ones that offend other users when they complain. this information is being collected and will brought to the attention of dell in time. sure they can hide behind their blanket 'it is our forum so we can do whatever we want' but in order for them to be taken seriously they have to operate even handedly and it is apparent that many people feel and the ever growing examples suggest that they do not.

to the op, forget calling dell. you obvioulsy exhausted this route. report your issue to bbb.org. that is the only thing that lights a fire under dell and gets a call back. not that the dell people that respond to bbb.org complaints are perfect, and they have made promises to me that they did not keep but instead were followed up with a formal letter that refered to people at dell that work in the proffession that can not be mentioned here (the one where they still wear wigs in england, the one were a joke states that 1,000 of them at the bottom of the ocean is considered to be a good start...). good luck.

* another example of this forums horrible design is that this automated filter is applied after the message is posted instead of protesting at the time of post so the user could modify (i will not say 'correct' as this is an entirely subjective issue) the post to confirm to the poorly written 'rules' of the dell tos. if they were given out, this forum design would certainly win the award for worse message board design ever implemented.

Re: Corporate Office Address/Contact

I don't know if it was my post that helped or some other persons post but as you will see my post previous to yours has been deleted by Dell. Unfortunately, they do not like anyone telling the truth. Good Luck!

Re: Corporate Office Address/Contact

Thank you. This was the only thing helpful I received from this day on the phone with Dell. I used every bit of this to send my letter to Dell describing my situation. We'll see.

Re: Corporate Office Address/Contact

Chris, it cost me over a $100 to not only get my i-Tunes music deleted but all of my saved email. Then in order to fix a problem that was caused when those two things happened the Tech walked me through reformating my OS only to find out they still didn't solve the problem but my husband finally did.

Re: Corporate Office Address/Contact

Chris, good luck in getting a contact name or number. Even their 515 number will take you to India. Maybe the best thing is to go to an outside source to force their hand. Is it too late to go through your credit card company?

Re: Corporate Office Address/Contact

If Dell doesn't allow the use of astericks to evade the TOS they who is putting the astericks in my posts in place of a word I used. I spelled the word out and the TOS or whomever put the astericks in in place of my Illegal word!
