XPS 600 Diagnostic Light

Left the house for an hour and came back and found Desktop down. Power light was amber. Diagnostic light 4 was steady green. Unplugged from outlet. Plugged back in and nothing happened. Fans run and #4 lights comes on but that's all. Any suggestions what the problem could be? Need help!

Hi, EM9487:

Here's your troubleshooting guide. A steady or blinking amber light?

Re: XPS 600 Diagnostic Light

Thanks Ospprey4. I read the manual but it doesn't show what the code is for with just the # 4 light being on and steady. I've unplugged from outlet, turned off monitor, printer, changed outlets, replugged in but end up in same mode. Fans come on, does not boot and "on" button remains steady amber and #4 light remans steady green. No beeps. nothing! I can open the dvd drive and close close it and I get one flash of the indicater light. The CD drive will not open. Also. the front panel light (the one you can change colors is dim blue) Any other thoughts??

Re: XPS 600 Diagnostic Light

Sounds like the power supply. You could call Dell parts and order (Dell part Number DD710) or just Google it. Our spare-parts shopping maven, Shesagordie, recommends Centrix for Dell replacement parts.

Re: XPS 600 Diagnostic Light

Took it over to Altex here in San Antonio. They opened it up and showed me it was the motherboard. Thanks for your help! I really appreciate it.
