Why is there no way to "watch" the progress of your computer as it goes through the assembly process? There used to be a graphic that showed the progress of the build process...gathering parts, assembly, software installation, testing, etc. As far as I can tell now you are just "on hold" until the product ships.
I ordered a Studio XPS 16 1 month ago today. The order status indicated "in progress" the next day and nothing has been changed since that time. The estimated delivery date is next Tuesday but no one can/will tell me if the laptop is anywhere near completion.
Does anyone know the current build times? I was told 20 days max by the sales rep...but that is long past. Does anyone know of a phone number I can call to verify this thing is going to be shipped anytime soon? I'm ready to cancel the order and get a Mac!

Just prior to my writing the above post, I emailed the same question to my Dell sales rep. and I asked if she could check on the status of my order. I was surprised when I got a call yesterday afternoon from the sales rep! The rep said she understood my concern, had checked my order and that my order would be shipped yesterday and arrive on the estimated delivery date as promised! Cool!
I had requested to be emailed when the computer shipped but I still hadn't received a shipping notification as of this morning. I logged into my good ole' Dell account and guess what?...my estimated ship date was changed from 11/10/09 to 11/17/09.
My Dell sales lady purposely lied to me.
I am going to an Apple store today and purchasing a MacBook.
I have purchased many Dell computers in the past (I was a system admin. for a 125+ person small business, but I will never purchase anything from Dell again.

Uhhhh... I guess I didn't make myself very clear. Things did not work out with dell; my sales person lied to me and then they delayed shipping of the laptop by a week ( I'll update this thread if/when they miss that date also). I've only been waiting a month so I guess this is standard operating procedure for dell.
What a disappointment.
Seems if I order a Mac it will ship the next business day...
Well it has been another week and my order has been delayed again. New estimated ship date 11/24/09...Dell sure isn't very good at estimating ship dates. I've been waiting over a month now...Mac's are looking better and better.
Sales support is totally useless.
This is definately my last Dell!
