Hey,I have a Dell Inspiron 530. I know it can be upgraded a lot, but not as much as say, a custom built PC. Currently I have: CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo 2.33GHz 1333FSB E6550 RAM: 4 x 1GB DDR2-667MHz GPU: Nvidia 8600GT PSU: The Power supply that came with it, so I am assuming 300W or 350W I am currently looking for MAXIMUM upgrades as of November 5th, 2009. Upgrades like 4 x 2GB DDR2-800MHz RAM (for 8GB RAM), Bigger PSU 650W+ etc etc. Just looking for input. Price does not matter, not looking to OverClock. Thanks!
Alright, YOU CAN UPGRADE EVERYTHING EXCEPT THE MOTHERBOARD.
I have a 4850, 430w PSU, 1 more stick of ram, and looking for a cpu cooler to shut the loud fans.
4870: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150441&cm_re=4870-_-14-150-441-_-Product
RAM: I would get 4 x 1GB so that it uses dual channel. four of these. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145153&cm_re=1gb_ddr2-_-20-145-153-_-Product (I have no idea why you need 8gb of ram. 4 is enough already)
CPU cooler: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835150082&Tpk=masscool%208wa741 (the one im gonna buy really soon)
(maybe a cpu? q8200?: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115055&cm_re=q8200-_-19-115-055-_-Product )

I need to remind you that you need to either get longer SATA cables, or put the HDD over the GFX card so that the cable will reach. 2nd, you need to remove the stock cooler to get the PSU in and out. and if you want to upgarade the mobo then you need a case that suppots a mATX board.
Hi, You cannot get 8GB of ram into an 530, only 4x1GB will only work(max 4GB).
Inspirion 530s
Somebody once said: Politics is the art of looking for trouble, finding it, misdiagnosing it, and then misapplying the wrong remedies.
You can go as high as a Core 2 Duo E8500 in a Inspiron 530. Quads are not supported in your version of the 530.
Inspiron 531 - AMD Athlon 64 X2 6400+ 3.2Ghz- 4GB Dual-Channel DDR2 SDRAM 800MHz - Western Digital 320GB 7200RPM SATA - 512MB ASUS Geforce 8500 GT GDDR2 - 16X CD/DVD+/-RW - Windows 7 Home Premium - Dell 19" SE198WFP Monitor
yes the are. many I530s were shipped with quads, and E8600 is higher.
and the P35/G31/G33 DOES support 45nm cpus.
It all depends on what motherboard your system has. If it has a G33M03, Dell part number 0FM586, then yes it will support a quad. If it's a G33M02, Dell part number 0RY007, then no it doesn't support quads. The difference between the motherboards is the number of voltage regulators. As for the E8600, in theory it should work on a G33M02, just not tested by Dell.
