The Dell downloads list the Integrated audio as "Realtek ALC888 HD Audio, not "Intel".
However, Direct X 9 has been out since the beginning of Windows XP, so anything current would support at least DirectX9.
If you have Vista or Windows 7, just click on the start icon and then dxdiag and press enter, the DX diagnostic screen will come up and one of the items wil be the version of DirectX that you have (I have Windows 7 and it shows DirectX11). It will also have two audio tabs and if there is a problem with the sound it will be noted.
