What are the video specs on your laptop? Did you switch the monitor output on the laptop - it does not automatically detect the HDMI connection? I had the same issue with our inspiron 1525.
Dell Studio XPS | Inspiron 1525 | Inspiron 600m
I connected with an HDMI cable and switched the monitor output on the laptop. I found a solution on another forum by going directly into the system and changing the resolution to a lower level . This seemed to solve the problem although I can not watch both the TV and the laptop monitor at the same time as I did when I was using Vista.
Glad to hear you found a solution. I may be back in here as my next goal is to connect my new Studio XPS to our Sony....
Happy Holidays!
