GX 620 and ADI Audio Driver Reboots XP

Computers are: Optiplex GX 620, Windows XP SP3.

After pushing an XP SP3 image (Ghost) on two GX620s everything is fine but our image is missing the sound card driver.  We went to the Dell site, punched in our Dell Service Tag and download: R97809 (5.12.01.5246, A23).   Installed the driver and rebooted.

After we logon to XP, the computer reboots.  Only thing to do is go into SafeMode and remove the SoundMax driver.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Since you loaded these both from the same disk image (apparently), I would first install the Intel chipset drivers and then the sound drivers and see if tht works.

On a new install the chipset drivers MUST be installed BEFORE installing the integrated sound driver and that may also be the case here.

Has this same disk image been installed on other systems and do they work OK?  May even be a problem with the disk image.

We just tried your suggestion (Thanks!), loaded the chipset driver 1st (got it from Dell site) rebooted, they installed the sound driver and rebooted.   But it still does the same thing, reboots after XP logon.

Image was created on a Optiplex 960 and tested fine on a GX 280 and GX 745.   I think I should've used a GX 280 to create my image...

I think I am getting closer; in the device manager I noticed a 945G controller (I know the GX620 doesn't have that), I uninstalled the driver for it, rebooted and installed SoundMax then rebooted, I got a tiny bit futher after logon, XP appeared to pick some new hardware but it rebooted.  I just have to figure out how to remove all the 945G junk.  I'll try again on Monday b/c I'm out of time.

I am thinking I should've created my universal Ghost image on the oldest Dell in our fleet (GX 260) rather than the newest.

Because of the different hardware (motherboards, etc) you need separate disk images for each model.  Where I worked, we had a "standard" disk image but it was customized for the various model PC's we had and not just one image for all models.
