RAID1 not working..

Hi guys.

I've got a poweredge T300 Server with a simple 2 disk RAID1 setup and I was trying to test the RAID by pulling one drive then booting off the other.  The first drive works, however, when the bottom drive is unplugged it won't see a bootable device, which suggests that all the data is on just one of the 250GB SATA drives.

I have checked the Open Manage Software and it says there is a RAID1 and shows both hard drives ok.  Any ideas?

Hmm...I've never quite understood why many people read threads and simply don't help out, surely the idea of a forum is to read the posts that you know you can help out somebody with and then at least reply? Hmm

Re: RAID1 not working..

In theory the server should boot from either disk in a failed state but it may not. The server looks to boot from drive 0(default)  unless it has been changed. If drive 0 is removed and you cant boot from drive 1 then just change the cables over, change 1 to 0  then it should boot.

Hi Tommo,

Sorry about the delay in replying buddy, I appreciate the reply.

It did indeed work moving the cable over from the working hard drive to the 'non-working' drive.  Is there any way around this to automate it for the client or is it simply the limitation of not having a PERC installed?
