Dimension 8300 vid card compatibility

I have a Dimension 8300 which will accept up to a 256 meg vid card, but when I recently purchased an ATI Radeon 9600/256meg AGP, the monitor would not respond at all after vid card was installed.Due to an earlier error in vid card selection over a year ago, the Radeon 9600 is a downgrade from a 512 meg ATI Radeon X1300/X1550 which has been working well despite my computers supposed ability to handle up to a 256 meg card.

After delving into the forums of several sites online, I find the 9600 is not compatible with a Dimension 8300 and plan on sending this card back to the dealer unless there is some trick to make it work.

My real question is, is it possible to make this Radeon 9600 work, or, will a Radeon 9550/ 256meg/8X AGP work on my system?

All BIOS files and DirectX files are up to date before you ask :)

Hi, I had the 9550 in my old system and it worked great. If i was going to recommend a card, then it would have to be the 9550.
