Re: Soundmax won't install

First, What Model PC? and What Operating System?  We can't give you specific help without that.

Also, what did you do after the "computer messed up"?  Did you do a complete new install?  or some other recovery?

Many new Dell's come with a Recovery Partition on the hard drive that will restore the PC to the factory condition.  If you did a complete reinstall this is the way to go as it installs everything and there is no need for any discs.   For systems with XP it's  CTRL/F11 at initial boot, for Vista it's F8.

Post back with more info so we can try to assist you with the problem.

Re: Soundmax won't install

All i really know is that its a window xp home edition, and it's about 7 years old so its not a new dell. When it first messed up we were cleaning up some space and i know i accidently uninstalled soundmax thinking it was one of those converter tools our mp3's usually installs when we hook it up, so to undo it we tried system restore cuz last time we did that it brought back the stuff we uninstalled but instead that just made it worse becuz it ended up taking off windows xp, so my uncle then reinstalled windows xp with the disc. It works now except that the audio device is still missing and i'm not able to install soundmax

Re: Soundmax won't install

There is a model number on the PC, usually somewhere on the front, such as Dimension 2400, Dimension 8300, etc.  We need to know that before we can tell you exactly (link you) what to install.  On many Dells, if you reinstall, and you need to do a complete clean install for problems, not just reinstall Windows over top of an existing install, the correct and required install sequence is (1) Install Windows, (2) Install chipset drivers (3) Install device drivers including the Dell sound drivers, video, etc.

A guess would be to install the chipset drivers then the SoundMax, since on a new install the chipset drivers MUST be installed BEFORE installing the sound.

Re: Soundmax won't install

Problem Solved!!! Turns out we kept entering the service tag wrong so it brought up the wrong audio device to install, so of course it didn't install. You kept mentioning wht type of computer it is which made me think we had to be getting that wrong. So thank you for your help!
