Does Dell actually sell anything?

I am trying really hard to buy a $6000 T710 server (or possibly a high-end workstation) from Dell, but I cannot get anyone to talk to me or answer my emails.

  1. My technical questions regarding memory ranking and ECC are ignored.
  2. My request for a premier login (to access technical manuals) remains ignored too.
  3. So far my shopping cart has expired twice while waiting for someone to respond.

After reading some of the community posts here, I start thinking that I probably should look elsewhere.

Thanks for nothing, Dell.

Re: Does Dell actually sell anything?

I am also having difficulties purchasing from Dell. I originally thought it was due to their recent "restructuring" here in the UK, but evidently not.

I don't need technical queries answered. I'm after simple quotes (for several different clients) with a bit of discount applied by my "account manager". I have purchased several servers, laptops and PC's and would have thought my potential business (like yours) would have been nurtured. I can tell from the lack of response from Dell to your post that this isn't the case.

Did you get a satisfactory response from Dell?

Were you forced to look else where?    If so where did you go??? think I could be joining you!

Re: Does Dell actually sell anything?

No luck with the business division -- they showed absolutely no interest in selling me a $6000 server.  Maybe because its "just one" (for the moment).  So I went to a small, local, non-Dell supplier -- no problem.

I did end up buying a high-end workstation from Dell, but I had to buy it as a "home user".  Even though the "home" sales person was a bit out of her depth with a high-end, Precision 7500 workstation, she made an effort and resolved everything speedily and to my satisfaction.

Even though I like the way professional-series Dell computers are engineered, for the next purchase, I will shop around elsewhere first before maybe going back to Dell.

Cheers
