inspiron 530 hook-up to older tv?

i have an older tv that i would like to occasionally hook up to my inspiron 530 ... is there any way that that may be possible??  looks like the tv has an s-video socket (4 pin), but i don't see an s-video socket on the computer.  is there one on the computer, and i am looking in the wrong place??  or is there any another way i could do this hook-up??  if anyone has any suggestions, i'd love to hear them ... thanks, in advance ...

Hi reg232, Most graphics cards have them. If your going to connect up an tv, be it, via DVI or HDMI, then it's done via your graphics card.

The S video port on the computer is in the back next to or near the monitor connection. Have you looked there? You must have a video card with svideo port or tv tuner card in the computer to attach to the tv. Sounds like you might have integrated video and not a separate video card. You can add a video card or tv tuner, but there's no other way to attach to an old tv. Many newer tv's have a pc input--either vga or dvi or hdmi--but you still need a matching port on your computer. IMO, it's not worth the trouble to connect an older tv to a computer. The picture is not good on tube tv's. Only LCD tv's work well as a monitor.

You need a video card with an analog-out DIN port. Look on Newegg for cards having a round socket on the back, usually between the DVI ports. And, make sure that the card you buy has the dongle (adapter) that connects your TV to the DIN port.

Analog outputs are becoming less common, as more and more cards drop them in favor of native HDMI ports.

hi Mary, i did look for the s-video port in the back like you said ... when i didn't see it, i was hoping maybe it would be somewhere else that i didn't know of ...

wanted to say thanks to all of you for your input ... seems like it may be more work than it's worth ... maybe time for new tv ... thanks again!!  :)

Not really ... buy one of these and you'll have all you need.

That one will do S-Video, composite, component, and HDMI.

It has full acceleration for Blu-ray HD, but don't expect high-definition over S-Video, as you need component or digital (HDMI or DVI) for that.

It also has an onboard eight-channel HD audio device, but I believe it's only accessible over HDMI.
