Onboard Video Card Problem

I have recently aquired a Dell Dimension 2400 from a friend of mine and the only problem I seem to be having is getting the onboard  Intel(R) 82845G/GL//GE/PE/GV Extreme Graphics controller to Display in AGP mode. Not to too computer litterate but i do Belive this Dell model supports that And i have downloaded the chipset and all other compatible drivers for this specific model from the Dell site here and all are up to date since i did not have the orginal drivers & utlities disk. Would be greatful if anyone knows of how to enable AGP display, Would be a big help thanks!

[Systems Specs] If needed.

Dell Dimension 2400
Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 2.80Ghz 2.79Ghz, 1.25 GB of RAM
Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 3.

Re: Onboard Video Card Problem

To enable agp you will need a discrete video card insrted into the agp slot. You did not mention what video card you are trying to install...Please repost with details.

Re: Onboard Video Card Problem

I'm not trying to install a new video card into the computer. They are all PCI slots. Was just trying to configure the Onboard video card this dell came with which was stated in my orginal post. I know in system set up during restart in (Legacy Options) there is a AGP aperture option is set to 256MB. and Video is set to Onboard. My old VPR Matrix computer has AGP intergrated onboard card and that is a 2001 model. so i'm not sure if this dell 2400 is displaying in AGP, or just has really poor AGP texture.

Re: Onboard Video Card Problem

AGP is just an electronic path that a videocard/solution can talk to the chipset with.

The onboard video on a Dimension 2400 is very low end. It's good enough for browsing the web, office type applications, watching videos up to about DVD quality, but not much more than that.

When using XP, be sure to install the OS, then the Intel chipset drivers, then the Intel video drivers, and then any network and/or sound drivers. After that (and the needed reboots for installing those drivers) you should be at optimal capabilities of this system.

Re: Onboard Video Card Problem

Thanks for the help. I also recently opened my old VPR Matrix computer seems i was wrong about that video card in there i thought that too was an onboard video card but found out its a seperate GeForce MX/MX400 that was purely AGP. So with this dell 2400, would the graphics improve at all if i bought maybe a seperate PCI video card for it? And if the Onboard video card for this thing is that bad, might explain why my AGP Texture Acceleration under display in DXDIAG is not available.
