Dell Studio XPS Laptop 1340 Windows 7 Driver Problem

Hello everybody, Dell recently have published XPS 1340 drivers for Windows 7. Dell also have update the drivers as well as the web interface. There are no more Dell Utility System Software that previously mandatory to be installed first in Vista. Does this mean we don't have to install the utility first in Windows 7? Anyone pls clarify this.

I've re-formatted my system and use Windows 7 (x64) along with all the drivers (including the Dell Utility System Software, but not the QuickSet). Unfortunately my system hanged (not bluescreen) everytime performing large file transfer between partition and sometimes during log in. I tried to uninstall the Chipset driver (Windows 7) and then install the Chipset driver for Vista. My computer runs smoothly even the Windows Experience Index is lower than during using the actual Windows 7 chipset driver.

As usual, I've reported to Dell and as usual Dell with their EXPERT engineer/technician/support staff ask me to run the diagnostic software and of course there are no single hardware problem.

Re: Dell Studio XPS Laptop 1340 Windows 7 Driver Problem

Good day,

I have recently installed a clean install of Win7 x64 Home premium.  I did not start with the Dell System software and only loaded the windows 7 drivers posted on the site.  I left everything else the same (default windows drivers).  I do believe there are driver issues dell support told me the OS is to new and they know nothing about it, then tried to direct me to a service they offer but is not free, a fee based technical support.  WOW complete care for what?  I guess I really have to read that service agreement and see where it says if we cannot help you then you’re on your own - for a fee of course.  The fact they offer drivers and deem this system Windows 7 compatible tells me their service department needs to do some homework and research in order to provide the service we all pay for.

I have had no hangs and the only issue I am having is the on board video will not display aero at all.  Black screen tell me the driver has stopped responding and has recovered.  Once I go to performance mode and the second video card kicks in then there are no issues with aero.

Anyone else have got problems with Windows 7 drivers?

Another problem that i've faced in Win7 with this machine is the automatic software updates for FastAccess software (for facial recognition) always give error while updating.

Re: Dell Studio XPS Laptop 1340 Windows 7 Driver Problem

Hi Zig,

have you tried to install all the drivers according to the order suggested by Dell? there is order on which you should install the chipset, video etc. the guide is available on the download page. currently, i'm using all available software for vista x64 EXCEPT for the drivers that is available for win7 BUT NOT the quickset and recommended power settings and I AM NOT using the chipset driver for win7 x64 but just use the one for vista x64. this is my current configuration since the chipset for win7 caused my laptop freeze during any large file transfer operation.

If you still facing the same problems, my suggestion is, try to run the diagnostic tools, and then ask Dell for repair, depends on you warranty status or ask the seller from ebay. i've got replacement once due to blue screen problem during in vista.

Re: Dell Studio XPS Laptop 1340 Windows 7 Driver Problem

Hi Rizuan Thank you so much.

I resolved my problem, you're right. My laptop came with vista 32bit and all factory disk includes only drivers for vista 32 bit. I'm going to install win 7 64 bit, but i don't have vista 64 bit drivers, so do me favor please?? upload your chipset also display driver for 64 bit. When i downloading drivers from dell.com for vista 64bit, there are same like with windows 7 drivers. So please upload your chipset and display drivers for vista 64 bit from your factory application drivers DISK. i will appreciate if you upload your drivers on www.hotfile.com

Zig try to install chipset and display driver for vista 64bit on windows 7

thank you

Re: Dell Studio XPS Laptop 1340 Windows 7 Driver Problem

Hi Nyambayar,

I'm not sure about my factory application drivers disk because I just use the latest from Dell website. You are right, Dell just use the same drivers for both of Win7 x64 and Vista x64 now. Have you tried to use the drivers that are available from the website? Are you facing the same problem like mine, freezing during heavy file transfer?

To be more specific, currently I'm using nVidia MCP79 Chipset V.4.69, A00 (release date: 10 Jan. 2009) --> Originally for Vista x64 (not available from Dell website)

video driver A09 ( this one is the latest from Dell website, for Win7 x64)

I will give you the chipset driver,  nVidia MCP79 Chipset V.4.69, A00 (release date: 10 Jan. 2009)

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=9W79PDOK

And I will give you the previous version of video driver, A06, that was originally for Vista x64. ( I dunno why Dell jump from A06 to A09)

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=350PNUF4

I've used these 2 drivers without any problems. And for now, I'm using only the chipset driver plus the latest video driver from Dell. I really hope you can test the latest chipset driver from Dell website and report back here any result.

Re: Dell Studio XPS Laptop 1340 Windows 7 Driver Problem

SOLVED:

After numerous trouble calls to Dell and MS the problem resides in the newest video drivers, not hardware related as dell has eluded to.  I am now running at 100% not conflicts hardware failure's ect. Uninstall the old video drivers and restart.  Run Driver Sweeper and clean left over driver reg entries ect - restart and install one of the below video drivers.

All other drivers on the XPS download page work without error or conflicts.  Please pass on this solution as I am new to the forum world and I believe this is an issue experienced by a lot of loyal Dell customers.

Newest drivers on the Dell download page for the Video should be avoided.  Look for the old video drivers for windows vista.  These work great for me:

ForceWare version:    179.82

Windows Vista 64bit

ftp://ftp.us.dell.com/video/R218758.exe

Windows Vista 32bit

ftp://ftp.us.dell.com/video/R218757.exe

Thanks Rizuan

Re: Dell Studio XPS Laptop 1340 Windows 7 Driver Problem

I was about to post my own message. Not sure your solution is the right course of action, so if anybody wants to chime in, lemme know. If I don't hear more, I'll post a separate message.

Just bought a Studio 15 (which is x64) that arrived the other day, for my partner. He's found that his new system freezes when, of all things, he tries to play Solitaire. It seems to happen when there are graphics moving around, which connects well with the "use old video drivers" solution. It doesn't do a blue-screen-of-death, just a freeze. Finally he'll hard boot to get out of it. He's had some strange close-to-freeze behavior using Word (we're kinda power-users with Office and tend to try to do a lot of things at once), but only had the actual freeze with Solitaire, I think --and he's not playing other games, or I guess it might have come up with those.

My question is... you're saying use the Vista 64bit drivers, not the Windows 7? No difference?

Thanks!

Becky
