Can't flash Vostro 220 1.2 BIOS (Vx20-120.exe) in Win7 x64

Trying to update my BIOS to the latest from the support site. I've installed Win7 x64 on my Vostro 220, and when I run the executable, the disk spins and something is extracted, but nothing runs. I've checked the free disk space and sure enough, every time I run it another ~1MB worth of data is written, but I can't find just where the files are getting extracted to. Can anyone shed any light on this?

I am having the same problem.  I have also tried to do it with a USB floppy drive and a MS DOS floppy, it starts but then gets an error during the install and wont update.  Any help would be appreciated.

I updated my 220S with a USB floppy and a USB flash drive.

The floppy was too small for the extracted files, so once DOS had booted up, I switched to the flash drive and ran the install from there. I had to try two different flash drives. (The first one did not work.)

I'm having the same problem with Vista 64,   4 files are extracted to a temp folder inside your user temp folder, named similar to _7C48.tmp.  Each time you run it the files are extracted again.

Winflash.exe
FoxAwdWINFLASH64.sys
FoxAwdWINFLASH.sys
7C4D1P39.ROM

Winflash doesn't run, it starts and then silently fails.  May not be happy in a 64-bit environment, which technically Dell doesn't support for the Vostro 220.

I used the DOS command-line flasher.

My Vostro 220S is quite happy with 64-bit Windows 7.

My Vostro 220 is happy with Vista x64, been running it that way since April 2009.  Plan to move to Windows 7 x64

Could you document what you mean by DOS command-line flasher? What steps did you take to upgrade the BIOS?

Thanks
