Dell XPS 730x

No ideas , anyone?

Hey PH3NOM,  The XPS Gaming computer is no more.  They are not listed in the Dell Shop as of last Friday night.  I was supprised that was the end, but seems like everyone who had one in production was cancled.

I am seriously thinking about building my own rig for my next computer, using an EVGA Classified X58 MOBO Hydro Copper and a Coolit Boreas TEC cooler.   The Alienware site is very vague about what the current water cooling system is, but it looks very much like the Coolit Domino series rebranded with the Alienware logo.  I know that Dell has taken a few hits from gamer rig purchasers, but overall the XPS 700 series has been a great gaming machine.

A buddy of mine recently purchased an Alienware and it's the SAME type of cooling setup as the H2C.  It works on the same design and idea.  Not only that, but you STILL can't control the radiator fan or liquid pump.  DELL will lose a large customer base because there are PLENTY who aren't interested in purchasing an Alienware computer.  The powers that be, in the DELL marketing department, need a serious reality check.  When you have a good thing, such as the XPS gaming line, you don't discontinue it.  Instead, you find ways to make it better than the competition for a competitive price point.

I can't believe they want to push people towards Alienware. While I love gaming, high end computers, and technology in general, I don't need an Alien computer that I consider over priced, and what more I looked at the alienware config and the keyboard and mouse options are their alienware branded choices, no G19, or anything. I went from about to spend $3,000+ on a config to simply annoyed. I had been so happy with my last XPS, but now its back to building what I want. Im unsure of the rules about posting other places, but I'll just say if they choose to discontinue something that is popular to prop up Alienware, they are loosing my business and more.

Dell's history - Custom MOBO - FAIL !!!!!  I think this has been Dell's down fall on their high end systems.  I know you have to be unique in this competitive market but there is a line that must not be crossed and Dell cross it and paid for it for years.  The 730/730x would have been one of their best systems out in a long time.  The problem or failure that has always haunted Dell was locking out customers from being able to control the way they wanted the systems to work.  Also their unstable BIOS that rarely worked 100% with their custom motherboards.  Dell should have fixed the problems with the 730/730x to secure long term customer to continue buying from them but Dell has pretty much put nail in the coffin.  Dell had a really easy solution on fixing the problems with the Dell systems.  This is what I have found to been a problem with the systems for shutting down - getting BSOD and it all came down to not getting enough juice to the CPU.  The settings that Dell had was 20 to 40 Mv short on power.  I have yet to get the BSOD since I upped my the Mv past Dells setting.  Also the power supply does not have sufficient rail power and is always 11.95V and lower and allot of hardware requires 12V +'s continues power.  When you go cheap and over charge then things start to show like it has for the past yrs.  Dell XPS HIGH END WILL BE MISS.  RIP

Well if that true i will not be buying anymore Dell machines. I started out with an XPS 710H2C then a 720H2C and finally i got an XPS730x H2C if they have discontinued the line then they have lost me as a customer unless they replace it with another highend line..I am not at all interested in Alienware.....Oh well

At this point we are at the higher end.  The 32nm won't be out for a while and from what I have read the i5 - and i9 won't compare to the i7.  Only Chris can re insure our doubts but I would say pretty much done deal.  AWAY with the XPS High End and Hello to Alienware ( No Chance For Me ).  Like stated over priced and ugggggly.

Have ni idea what sustem you want but sounds high end, Have not read this thread through. Consider looking at the very fine computers made by Falcon Northwest! Pure works of art and attention to detail. I want one so bad but could not afford one, had to settle fro a Studio 435 which Dell now calls the Studio XPS 9000. So far so good but man I wish I could gave given Falcon Northwest my money. They have a partnership with HP but remain indepebdant

I've been considering Digital Storm since yesterday, nice customization options, allows me to negative out things I dont need (like the OS, etc), which dell used to do some years ago. It will take me some time to research everything out AGAIN though.

As for settling for the Studio 435, I understand how that is. My approach has been, when I buy a computer, I want to get bang for my buck, so saving up for it for 6 months or so is worth it. I don't want to spend 1500-1700 dollars and be disappointed in a few months, I want to spend 3000-3500 bucks and be happy with what I have for at least 2 years, maybe longer with a few upgrades and tweaks.

I have or should I say HAD an XPS 730x system that had to have the MOBO replaced due to it taking 3 min to do a BIOS post.  The Tech that replaced it was so incompitent that he failed to plug in the CPU cooling fan correctly.  Needless to say the system lasted about 30 min before going POOF.  Dell has said yes we will replace it with a new unit but the 730x is on longer being produced.  Dell's option for me is a DOWNGRADE to a 630 or a 9000.  They stopped shipping this series to direct everyone over to the ALieanWare systems for the high end gaming units.  If my m1730 died it would be replaced with an ALienWare laptop but that is not an option with my 730x desktop.  My only option is a 630, seems to be a downgrade to me. 

Dell could reaplce my m1730 with a like or better system but cannot on my XPS 730x.

ANy ideas or suggestions on this issue would be appreciated as I am figuring Dell management does not care about the people that actually spend a lot on money on these top end units.

Welcome to the AWFUL DELL customer service! They did the same to me twice, replaced a processor with a lessor one and replaced memory with a slower speed. As far as I know they ALWAYS downgrade and often used parts and never upgrade. You just have to fight and fight and fight and swamp them with letters. I eventually got a new computer. Then they insisted I ship the old one back at my expense. I told them where they could find it. The sent me a ton of emails and I always said it was right here waiting for them. Eventually they gave up. Dell service is the worst. Nothing like HP or logitech that will happily upgrade or almost any one else I deal with. If something dies they replace it with the same or newer. Dell always replaces with the same, often recycled or lessor

Dell did it to me. Order a 730x on 8-11, they delayed it many times to 10-13. On 10-7, I recived a email that the build was canceled. After a week of checking out Cyber Power, Digital Storm, etc. I pick the Alienware Aurora ALX. 

I have a XPS Dimension Gen2 and its been a good unit, still using it.  The one time it did have a problum Dell sent out a technician. He replace the hard drive and I was good to go. And over the years I purchase other equipment from Dell without any trouble.

As far as looks go. The Aurora is much nicer than there pervious machines ( my opinion ).  I loaded it up with extras, such as overclocking, four HD in RAID 10, 12 GB RAM, and duel 5870 video cards, etc. I already have a 3007WFP and two 1905FT monitors and a G-19 keyboard.  It was a little more expensive than the competition, but with having a good track record with Dell  (except the cancel 730x, but I now have to say they did me a favor ) I'll stick with what works.

I have a estimated delivery date of 11-19. I hope it stays there.

Check your private messages.  I replied to this thread but DELL didn't like what I told you to do about it so they deleted my post and even said they would delete my account.  My opinion, if they don't want someone advising a forum user to pursue other means of getting your warranty honored, then DELL should stand by their warranty instead of trying to SHAFT their customers!!!!
