PowerDVD DX issue

System - two weeks old:
First time Dell owner, first time Laptop owner
XPS 1640
Vista Home Premium 64-bit, Service Pack 2
Optiarc DVDRWBD BC-5600 SATA (DVD/Blu-Ray Combo)
PowerDVD DX 8.2.5202

I previously played both DVD and Blu-Ray disks using PowerDVD DX. Today I tried both a DVD and a Blu-Ray disk and they would not play.
When I insert a disk I hear the disk spin up, the little circle next to the mouse cursor spins for a second then goes away, and nothing happens.
If I go thru Start/Programs and double-click on PowerDVD DX to start it up, the same thing happens. Even with no disk in the drive same thing happens.
I can explore/browse to the DVD/Blu-Ray drive and see the files on the disk, and access files.
Appears the drive is working/reading the DVD and Blu-Ray disks, but PowerDVD won't kickoff properly to display the videos.
I went to Cyberlink website and downloaded the newest update for PowerDVD 8 but when I try to install/update it says the upgrade won't work for my product.
Dell website says to try re-installing PowerDVD from disk labeled "For Reinstalling Cyberlink PowerDVD DX 8.0 Software for DVD Playback" but that disk was not included with my PC. I can view DVDs using Windows Media Player.
Don't know what the issue is or how to solve it, any help would be great!

Re: PowerDVD DX issue

Solved it for me... I tried PowerDVD 9 Ultra demo and it still didn't work.

The more I read, the more it pointed to drivers to do with ATi. When I checked out the ATi settings, under Video tab, basic colour, the "use application settings" was unchecked. Checking this solved the issue. Whether an app had changed this somehow I have no idea....

Re: PowerDVD DX issue

Well, I tested a resolution with the 2000 pound gorilla in the corner. I installed my Windows 7 RTM upgrade as a new install and then installed the Drivers, Quickset tool, Kaspersky, Roxio, and PowerDVD DX. It seems to work on this baseline configuration. I am going to so this again and take a ghost image this weekend.

I guess Windows 7 really does fix everything in the world...

Lets see if it continues to work over the next few months.

Re: PowerDVD DX issue

I too upgraded to Windows 7 then reinstalled PowerDVD DX from the original Dell CD-ROM. Everything's working great now! And Windows Media Center works better than ever too! I'm very satisfied now.
