BSOD Blue Screen Error when running Windows Update

In any operating system, you must disable power management (hibernate, sleep, hybrid sleep) BEFORE initiating Windows Updates. What is happening is the PC will go into some sleep state while the Windows Updates are downloading which causes the BSODs.

Re: BSOD Blue Screen Error when running Windows Update

***Please Note***

Vista 64-bit computers with SP1 installed are also getting BSOD.

The problem is with KB973879. If you follow the instructions below, it will remove it and fix the BSOD

Start, control panel, programs and features, view installed updates.

Click on the update(s) that you want to remove (I only removed the KB973879), then click uninstall.

I also have my Windows Updates set to notify when there are new updates.

After the update is removed, I would suggest installing Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 2 and Windows Vista Service Pack 2  - ALL Language Standalone (KB948465)

If you have many computers, I recommend using Windows Server 2008 Service pack 2 and Windows Vista Service Pack 2 -  All Language Standalone DVD ISO (KB948465)

Rick

Thanks Rick but I checked and I don't have that update in my list.

Re: BSOD Blue Screen Error when running Windows Update

Just to let everyone know this issue has been fixed.  Version 2 is now out.  SO if you see this update on your windows update you can now install it.
