Dell Studio 540 Fan

Hi,

I've got a Dell Studio 540 desktop (sitting on a carpeted floor) that I use for graphics rendering work.  I have a second Studio 540 sitting next to it.  One of them works absolutely perfectly, running fast and more importantly running silently.

The other, however, is displaying some irritating behavior.  Its fan will start, stop, start, stop, and so on in a precise pattern, over and over again; it will run for about ten to fifteen seconds, then shut off, and then repeat the cycle.  It's irritating!...but try as I might I can find no option to specify cooling performance options.  Am I missing something?  Do I need to check something on the unit?

Re: Dell Studio 540 Fan

I'm having this same issue on a Studio 540 desktop. I don't have AC so I'm wondering if the hot weather has anything to do with it.

It's driving me nuts....

Anyway, in case anyone cares, I moved the system so that it sits on a wood floor(instead of carpet) and it doesn't do this anymore.
