re: SP2309W monitor: DVI cable single-link or dual-link?

I recently ordered 2x SP2309W monitors that are specified as 2048x1152 native resolution. This problem occurs on both monitors.

When I connect the monitor to my computer via VGA cable provided and adjust my graphics card settings to this resolution, I DO get a full screen image. However the image quality is low: constant noise, wavyness on solid dark colours.

When I connect the monitor to my computer via DVI cable provided and adjust my graphics card settings to this resolution, I DO NOT get a full screen image. Instead the result is a smaller section of the screen being shown, toward the bottom right hand corner. As I move my mouse cursor to the extents, it will pan across to reveal parts of my desktop.

After exploring a bit on these forums I found that not all DVI formats and cables are the same. see: http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/dsn/en/document?c=us&dl=false&l=en&s=gen&docid=236D276AA4004FB3A095F57303606A3B&doclang=en

My graphics card outputs include VGA and DVI (DVI-D Dual-Link).
The Dell monitor inputs include VGA, HDMI, DVI (DVI-D Dual-Link), plus more.
The DVI cable provided is a DVI-D Single-Link.

Question:
1. What kind of cable should be provided with the monitor? I would assume since the native resolution is so high, that I was suppose to recieve a Dual-Link cable? Unfortunately I don't have access to such a cable to test whether this will resolve the issue.

Thanks in advanced.

re: SP2309W monitor: DVI cable single-link or dual-link?

Vinh X Nguyen,

The SP2309W has a DVI-D Single Link connector. If you look here you will see that pins 4/5,12/13,20/21 are disabled internally. So the DVI-D cable we shipped should work at up to 2048 x 1152 at 60 Hz.it sounds like your video card is not scaling correctly on DVI.

Open the Ati Catalyst Control Center- Digital Panel Properties- Attributes and enable "Scale image to full panel size".
-or-
Open the Nvidia Control Panel- Change flat panel scaling and choose "Use my display's built-in scaling".

re: SP2309W monitor: DVI cable single-link or dual-link?

From the information you have supplied, it appears that you are using a NVIDA GPU.

What is the Name and Model # of your card.

Please give me all the specs that you can.

If you are missing any, I will look them up.

I will compare your monitor specs to your card specs and see what might be the problem.

There are also some other issues having to do with the pixel clock.

Here is a link that you can read up on. http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/87

There is more info on this site that may help you out.

I've been reading it also, will have to re-read it a few hundred times to understand it, but I will eventually get it, I hope.
