Studio One - Video problems

The begining of May I purchased a Studio One and recieved it on May 27. After several hours I turned it on and after 2 1/2 hours of updates on one of the re-boots the video screen stayed black.

After calling Dell Support and after 40-60 minutes it was determined their was a hardware issue and the identified part would be sent and I would receive a call from the company who would install the part the next day.

The next day I received a call from Dell the part was back orderd and would be available on June 5.

On June 5 I again contacted Dell and was told the part had shipped and I would get a call on June 6 and when I mentioned that was a Saturday the support person said I would be getting a call on June 8.

On June 8 no one called and I called Dell who told me the part was still on backorder and would get back to me tomorrow with a ship date.

The Dell person called me back on June 9 and said the part will ship on June 15.

On June 15 I received a call from Dell the part was still on backorder and it would be another 5-7 business days before shipment.

I've been trying to write a review of the Studio One which shows a 4.1 of customer satisfaction. How can I write my review of the Studio One?

Anyone else been had this experience?

If you have a case, or reference number, you could contact Dell's 'Unresolved Issues' HERE.

Re: Studio One - Video problems

phorvath,

Studio One what? What specific model? Since the issue occured after windows updates, I doubt it is a hardware issue. Can you restart the PC, press F2 and enter the bios?

Re: Studio One - Video problems

Hi Chris,

The model was a Studio One 19" with Touch Technology.

This happened after updating the BIOS and I explained that to the technician multiple times. That is what I suspected but the technician said it was the video driver or something like that and was a hardware problem.  If you can look up the case nu<ADMIN NOTE:Case number & Service Tag removed per privacy policy> the service tag is  you can view the history.

The system would reboot and you could see the disk light blinking and then would stop. No light ever came to the screen and stayed that way during power off and power on.

To answer your question I can restart and press F2 but with a black screen I cannot see anything.

Thank you for your reply.

Phil

How do I Private Message you?

The service tag number was in my last post which should give most of the information you asked for.

I thought the BIOS was from A02 to A03 but I might not remember correctly since I did it on May 27.

The operating system was Vista Home Premium 64 bit.

Re: Studio One - Video problems

I ran into a similar problem, but the BIOS update was from A03 to A07.  If someone could step me through the screens of the bios just to let it go on to boot, even in safe mode, that would be great.  I really don't think the motherboard is bad, just waiting for response to a question I can't see....

Re: Studio One - Video problems

I would love to help you but after a month waiting for a part and no new computer  I sent the unit back

Let them replace the mother board if that is what they think.

All I got calling Dell is we are going to help you....... They didn't.
Maybe someday soon Dell will realize that the support in India costs them more than they might think.

I hope you have better luck than me.

Re: Studio One - Video problems

phorvath, I have the same issue as you describe.  This is pretty rough.  Monitor goes black right after the Dell boot screen.  I can't help but think this is related to a Vista automatic update.  I just received a Windows 7 upgrade disk too.  I was about to install Windows 7, proceeded to turn the Dell Studio One 19 PC on, and the PC somehow knew that today was the best day to die.  Just great.

naksookow - They should have the parts available now I would expect so hopefully you will back up and running soon. Good Luck! I was going to try again on the Studio One once Windows 7 was installed on it.  Based on your experience I will think seriously about another brand.

Re: Studio One - Video problems

I have the answer, or at least an answer, for the Studio One 19 disappearing display issue.  The issue is defined as the display going black right after the Dell BIOS boots with the status bar traversing about 1/3 the way across the screen.  The Windows screen is never seen, since the display goes immediately to black.  The power light remains white, and the hard drive light goes off and on as if the computer is actually still on and processing Windows startup.  The peripherals involved are the Dell OEM wireless keyboard and mouse, and no other wired keyboard or mouse.  The OS is Windows 7 64-bit home premium, although I had also experienced the disappearing display in Windows Vista as well but just got lucky that the situation fixed itself magically in the morning.  That magical automatic recovery led me to believe the wireless keyboard was transmitting a message to the Dell Studio One 19 to switch off the display.

To solve the disappearing display issue:

1) Remove batteries from the Dell wireless keyboard.

2) Press the power button to power the computer off normally.

3) Once the computer is off, press the power button again.  Watch the Dell Studio 19 boot and it will boot all the way to the Windows log on screen!!

4) Place the batteries back into the Dell wireless keyboard.

5) Sign into Windows, log on to the Dell website and apply with your success to my post here!

I like the Dell wireless keyboard, and love the Studio 19 PC, and I would like it even more if Dell could validate that my solution solves this particular display issue and please send me a new Dell wireless keyboard that will not cause the Studio 19 to fail to show a display.  Thanks.

Even with a USB keyboard and mouse, mine remained a brick ...
