Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.

Re: dell dj driver for vista

Here are two ideas to use your DJ with Vista....

1.) Upgrade the firmware to one with Play for Sure capabilities. Then, use Windows Media Player to add / remove music. Note that the firmware update must be done on an XP machine, but once done, the DJ will work with Vista.

OR

2.) If you do  not want to update firmware, you can download Rhapsody software. It is free, and will, for some reason, allow your computer to see your DJ.

Good luck.

I also need to use with Vista. I downloaded and installed Rhapsody but still don't see the DJ in my computer or see a way to transfer files to the DJ. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Re: dell dj driver for vista

Did you try to transfer the  files using the Rhapsody software or did you just install the software?

At least a couple of users had success using that program....

If that does not work, a firmware upgrade (to a PlayForSure version) and using Windows Media Player may be your only option.....

I don't know how to use the plays for sure software. Could you direct me to a "How to " page?

Re: dell dj driver for vista

Are you saying Rhapsody did not show your DJ? Truthfully, that is a new one... But I guess it could depend on what version of DJ youhave...

To upgrade the firmware, you need to know the following...

1.) It will erase EVERYTHING on your DJ. I'd recommened using DJ Explorer on the XP machine (step 2) to back up all of your music.

2.) It needs to be done on an XP machine.

3.) When completed, you should be able to see the DJ inside of Windows Media Player 11.

4.) Some have reported attempting t his firmware upgrade killed their player...

Proceed to the following web site and choose your version of a DJ (yes, it says Windows XP, that is okay)

http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/index.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&~ck=anavml

In the screen that opens up,look for System Firmware, and select Dell Firmware.

When you select Dell firmware, a screen will open up with all kinds of information, including installation instructions. Follow those steps.

Remeber, the firmware upgrade MUST be completed on an XP machine, but once it is done, the player will be seen in a Vista machine through Windows Media Player.

If you backed up your music to a flash drive, you can une WMP to reinstall it.....

Good luck.

Re: dell dj driver for vista

I copied this from the Rhapsody online help.

"When you attach a portable player or device to your computer, the portable device icon ( ) and name will appear in the Sources area. You can drag and drop tracks and albums to the device name."

If your device does not appear, it seems a firmware upgrade would be the only way to go...

After reading the help file I see where it is supposed to show up but it does not.

Re: dell dj driver for vista

That is strange, but could be due to either A) different version of DJ (1 or 2 generation, or pocket, or other) or B) changes to the Rhapsody software (I doubt it since it is still version 4).

The last confirmtion of someone using this was in April of this year, so the software may have changes since then. It was for a second generation DJ.

My lasty post seems to have been sent at the same time as your last post. As I said, the new firmware may be your only hope....

Sorry...
