Inspiron 8500 Ati video driver with Vista/Windows7

I've tried installing windows 7 on my trusty inspiron 8500 to see if I can prolong its life. It runs well, but I can't find a video driver for the ATI mobility radeon 9000 graphics card . I'm currently using the generic vga driver which means no 1680x1050 screen resolution. Instead I'm on 1280x1024, which means everything is ugly and stretched. Also, no fancy stuff like TV output.
Ati pass the buck to dell if you go looking on their site (now AMD). Dell only have XP drivers. If I can get windows 7 to run properly my laptop could live for another few years at least.
Does anyone have any ideas about where to get a vista / win7 compatable driver? Or does anyone know of a work around?
ATI (before AMD took over) released generic linux drivers to allow widescreen lcds to use their native resolutions under linux. Could there be some huge bundle driver to bring all legacy ati cards up to speed in vista / win7?
Any help would be much appreciated.
