Studio 15 power button still pulsates after shut down

I think there is no problem, it's normal that the light pulsate.

There are three way's to shutdown a pc working on Windows Vista.

1 Standby :light still pulsate, pc starts very fast up, windows stays in the RAM memory, little batterij use.

2 Sleep     :Light goes off, pc starts slower up then in standby, copy off windows saved on the hard disk, no batterij use.

3 Pc off      :light goes off, normal pc start

Number 2 is the same way as sleep in Windows XP.

I restored my laptop to the dell factory image or whatever it is called with no luck . This was after 1 hour with dell tech support where they tried to see if they could fix it. I guess i'll phone back tomorrow and tell them so i can get shipping info but i might wait to see if it is solved on winodws 7. If you can keep us informed, and i really doubt it is normal for it to pulsate after it is shut down this is bacause if you do a manual shutdown (hold the power button) the entire computer turns off with no pulsing. As in the dell manual if the light is pulsating it is in a low power state.

I agree. The pulsating is not normal. I have a friend that has the same laptop as me and when I shutdown her computer it does not pulsate! The light stays off.

Just to confirm I also went to the Dell Kiosk and OfficeWorks here in Sydney and when I talk to the sales people and they let me shutdown the laptop the power button does not pulsate!

I specifically posted the YouTube clips at http://techhelp.csimon.info/ because Dell support had a hard time believing us, as it is a common occurrence for people to press sleep or standby in vista instead of shut-down.

This is not by any means normal and all I want is Dell to at least acknowledge it or fix it. I will be calling them tomorrow.

The laptop pulsate ONLY when he is in standby mode.

When you complete shutdow or in sleep mode there is no pulsate.

I tested whit  Windows 7 and that is just the same, light pulsate only in standby mode.

I also went to the dell kiosk and asked the sales guys if I could try shutting down the studio 15. The power button didn't pulsate and it shut down like it should. I was advised by the sales guy to ring dell and ask for a technician to come and actually look at the problem.

I was also on the phone with technical support for almost 2hrs while they did everything (shut down, restored factory settings, re-installed/repaired vista, ran a system diagnosis), nothing strange was found and the notebook was working perfectly except for the light flashing.

Let me know if you make any progress with dell, I don't think its normal for a notebook to have its power button flash after it has been put into shut down mode.

I think its verry normaly that the power button pulsate when the laptop is in standby mode, so you can't see that the laptop stills use energy for the ram memory.

The best way is to set the laptop in sleep mode, then there is no energy use and is the light out.

Well i did the same thing as you. I let dell remotely access my computer and they tried all their fixes. However i really dont think there are any dell technicians that will come ot my house in Canada. So that means i have to send it in for them to look at it . I am going to phone them tomorrow to get hte shipping information and hopefully send it in and get it fixed asap.

I shutdown the laptop yesterday and the light dit not pulsate, this morning the light was pulsate ???

Its so interesting that we are on opposite sides of the planet and we both experience the same problem.

I'm very happy that GiordanosFriend posted all those you tube videos to help support our power button problem, I think when you ring up dell support again ask them to look at this forum or even go to the you tube videos.

Well i gave dell a call and they went through some las minute troubleshooting and ended up giving me the shipping information. I'm going to drop it off tomorrow and we'll see how long it takes to get back . I just hope i filled out the shipping tag correctly and it doesnt get lost.

I gave dell a call. They came and replaced the power button and the back of the lid. That didn't work and it was still pulsating. They came back the next day and replaced the motherboard.

After all that effort of calling dell and waiting on hold, it now works as expected. Now when I shutdown everything is off, no pulsating light. :)

My thoughts on the issue are that it was probably a short somewhere on the motherboard.

I agree with you, there must have been something wrong with a part and it just needed to be replaced. Good to hear that dell came and fixed it for you.

Well i got my laptop back. They replaced the netwrk card, motherboard, and lid so one of those caused the problem. Well its fixed now so i'm happy.
