Studio 15 power button still pulsates after shut down

my studio 17 does the same, i tend to close the lid while it shuts down, but you need to keep it open till  it goes off completely

that doesnt work either. if i keep the lid open it still flashes after shut down.

You need to open up the control panel and change the power managment options by default shutting the lit puts it in sleep or hibernate mode not shut if off the same goes for pushing the on/off looking icon in the start menu also only puts it into sleep / hibernate

i've already changed those options and i'm slecting shut down from the menu not pressing a button or shutting my lid.

i figured out a way to stop it from flashing. what i did was press the network button on the other side of the laptop twice. the first time i press it both the network button and power button light up and stay lit up. the second time i press it they both shut off. does anybody know why this happens?

I recently got my studio 1555 and I am also experiencing this problem.

I have gone to the power options and selected "shut down" wherever I could and shut down from both the start menu and also by pressing on the power button. The power button always flashes and I am assuming even when I put the notebook into "shut down" it is in fact sleeping/hibernating. The only way for me to really shut down is to hold the power button down for 2 - 3 seconds and forcing it to shut down.

I have rung dell up and they have told me that it is a common vista problem (but they don't have a solution for it).

Does anyone know how to make the notebook actually shut down and not go to sleep/hibernate? Should I format it or just send it back to dell and get a new one (I still have 2 weeks before my 21 day return thing expires)

Sorry for a silly question! Are you sure you are selecting the shutdown option from the arrow beside the look alike power button on the windows menu or are you using the "power" button in the menu. Because this "power" button is actually for sending the computer to sleep. Just try selecting the Shut Down option from the option button beside this one.

If this is not the case, well I have no idea what it is. Because, even I used to do this quite frequently when I initally started Vista.

i know for a fact that i am selecting shut down. should i phone dell and get a new computer or is it a vista problem and a new laptop wont fix it.

Well I know everyone thinks we aren't selecting shut down but I know both randname and I are both selecting shut down and the power light is pulsating. I even had the dell tech support remote desktop to my machine and shut down with me and the tech support had no idea what else to do when I told her the power light was still flashing.

I think I am going to format my dell to a clean vista image and if it still doesn't work then I will return the laptop for a new one.

I too would restore my computer but i don't want to lose all my saved information. As you said earlier its a known vista problem so would that even fix the problem? And how long do you have to send back your laptop after you bought it before your warranty expires?

I have also been trying to fix this problem and as an IT support person myself I believe it cannot be fixed by re-imaging or without dell on-site. I have documented the problem here:

I have included a YouTube clip of the problem and also a detailed a technical account of what I have tried. I will be ringing Dell this afternoon and if they cannot find a solution or send a technician to have a look at it I will be forced to return what I believe is a very good laptop, if this issue is resolved.

I think it's a vista problem, i gonna test it whit windows 7.

Might be a silly question, but have you tried removing the powercord?

Could the pulsating light be due to the battery charging?

Also, do the studio 15's have a wifi catcher, located on the other side of the laptop to the power button. Could this be the cause?

Its not a silly question. It still pulsates after I remove the power cord or if I shut-down using only battery power.

There is also no wifi catcher on the studio 15's.
